***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I had eggs shipped from Yukon Oklahoma to tahlequah from a hatchery and hatched maybe 3 out of 2'dozen. They wrapped them in single ply toilet paper and put them in an egg carton. Was not pretty. Have had others from Oklahoma ship me eggs and great hatches. Okcarla wraps them so well it's almost a puzzle unwrapping each one ( not complaining). Have had other eggs from several states a way with good %. Shipped eggs will pretty much always give you a lower % than your own eggs. It's a gamble that sometimes pays off. So I've had great results and extremely disappointing results with shipped eggs.

Anyone close to tahlequah have any if the following eggs available.
Bantam rocks barred or white.
Bantam turkens.
Large fowl turkens
RIR
Silver laced wyandottes

The auction is in Newcastle @ 5 --- it's a good clean auction, never know what you will find, i have bought a couple show quality RIR, rose comb RIR, & my mandrians. sometimes even have good dinner at the concession stand. Not sure if they are preparing anything yummy for tonight

I usually have large fowl RIR & some NN but my birds are not seperated into breeding pens now & doubt I will have any eggs this spring, focusing all energy on recovering myself. Having birds consolidated is much easier for now.
Cathie may have some RIR, not sure. NN should be easy for you to find locally. More people seem into NN than RIR, but I love my RIR!

do you think this RIR could be a hen it is 9 weeks old and really sweet tempered it is supose to be a roo but the others have bigger combs than it.



this is one of the other ones with a bigger comb and wattles.

Been lurking for awhile. Just starting out. In Oklahoma City would tractor supply be the best place to find feed?

I live out in the Blanchard Area and have bought my feed from Atwood's, Wynne's in Newcastle, Crossroads Feed store in Dibble, and TSC in Moore. They all are about the same, commercial grade, private label stuff. The bad bag I got was from TSC in Moore and it lhad looked like the bag had gotten wet in the bottom end because the feed had big clumps and was molded and had maggots in it. Other than that one time I have had no problems.

I do not know were you are located in the OKC Metro area but if you can find a feed Co-op that will mix the grains for you that is what I would do.

Jack has a pen of RIRs this year, all very dark red, so beautiful.
I get to experience more breeds than my Cochins with a neighbor like Jack. When I help with his birds I tell him they really are my birds but he does the chores and pays that feed bill.

we really need it.

Spending time working on the 13 column ledgers for the cattle and the farm accounts getting ready for tax time sure cuts into my online time.

Need to weigh some of my breeder hens for the Wyandotte thread.

Had a chick hatch in the brooder room yesterday and got mom and baby situated in a cage. One of the eggs had a severe crack in the bubble end but the chick was still developing and moving like crazy. The entire end of the egg shell was falling off. So it is in the hatcher along with a few eggs I estimate to be the same age... it's an experiment, but we will see if it hatches. Only reason I'm trying is it is a pure Columbian Wyandotte egg.
Will have to post a few photos.
