***OKIES in the BYC III ***

You know the day is perfect when you show your partner something chicken related and he/she doesn't snort. My first-ever iPod arrived yesterday, and today I received the screen protector and the silicone case. I watched a tutorial online to be sure I knew how to install the screen protector, then I dressed the little beauty in it's new silicone jacket, and when I presented the finished product to DH, he smiled. He's a teck guru, and when I told him I wanted to get an iPod (which I've resisted in the past) so that I can listen to language lessons (to prep for summer of 2014), he agreed it was time I joined those-who-use-technology. Presenting, Gallinita, my first iPod: )

Missing yet another auction, last minute Birthday party that the girls have to attend instead.

Here are pics of the new rhodebar chicks. The lone male is the one with a dot on his head. Thankfully no losses after I was able to get them all warmed.

Guess what I have???

These guys (turkeys) hatched today successfully. Our first since getting the new incubator. Having the temps constant has helped enormously and we used the ol' sponge trick to get the humidity up to where it needed to be for hatch. YES!!!!

We still have a fourth egg with a live bird in it but it hasn't externally pipped yet. Not sure whether we'll help it along or not. Next batch we'll be sitting 20 eggs. These are only a few of the pics I took, of course, being the proud parent and all.

Glad the rest made it!
I will miss the auction tonight too. I seem to have a sinus infection or something after getting over the flu. Fever and blah feeling.
Jack will miss it too. That is very rare for him but he has a sore he must stay off or the Dr. will put him in the hospital.

Very cool!

gorgeous day today- had to get feed and got home to the main flock out- normal- then hubby pointed out some of the bantams were out too...hmmmm... so the two flocks had a field trip today together- all but captain, who hadn't figured out how to get out of the run with the girls..

gave boaz a bath, ivomec, and he was a happy camper

and remember that white chick, that didn't have a tail- well, he is recouperating from a respiratory issue, and seems to have 'grinding' hocks?? seems a bit uncoordinated- not sure if its a he or she, but a beautiful one either way

and lastly, Jet and ebony- ebony is so tiny she can only cover 1 egg, so i gave her one of boaz's girls egg...

Stopped by the Newcastle Auction tonight but did not buy anything. I sure was tempted because they had several types of LF Cochins there. Had Blacks, maybe aLemon Blue trio, Blue/Splash Roo, and 2 Golden Laced Roos. Like I sad, I was very tempted.

Saw a several BYC'ers there also.

cherokeebirds.... donna burns.... caney ridge oklahoma.... i have spent several days on the response to this posts... and would have responded earlier but have been sick with the flu and trying to keep bird chores caught up the last couple weeks... i will not say anything derogatory about another breeder or chicken owner of any kind... firm believer in karma and that things come back full circle on us all... so here we go... first off thanks to all of our friends and customers who shot me a copy of this.... cherokeebirds is a group effort and partnership between donna burns ... cherokeebirds and sean clark and family at clark farms llc... between our 2 farms and 4 locations we raise several breeds of birds... we also network with an awesome group of local, statewide and out of state breeders who specialize in order to put together a one stop shopping spot for healthy quality birds... joe villamil has never been to my farm at either location... joe has seen me at several of the local auctions... crozier poultry auctions... which he works at... and for... we do buy auction birds... when we have people in search of a specific bird that we cant find elsewhere and or we know the source of the birds... these folks know that we use the auction as a source... the bio security measures we take with these birds is the same as any other birds we bring in..... we are breeders, traders, brokers and networkers of birds we are very proud of... as in horse trading it does not pay to send a sick, diseased, or otherwise problem bird to a buyer... you want a happy buyer... happy buyers are repeat customers.... unhappy buyers do not come back... we want the chicken business to grow for all chicken lovers irregardless of if you breed, have them as pets or raise them strictly for eggs and meat... so we are all about networking to get the best of the best... we are not ashamed to tell a potential buyer that has a question we cant answer that we dont know... but we will tell them that we will do our best to find out... .. thanks to you all for your time... and much thanks to all of our friends out there with a special thanks to ronnie atkeson for plugging us to start with... thanks ronnie... best to you alll donna b...
