If she has been thru a trauma like the attack it may have put her off laying for a few weeks. My hens quit for nearly a month after my dog attack.
How long did you have your birds before the attack? It can take hens a couple of weeks to aclamate to a new home before they start to lay again

Had chickens for a year. I'm still learning about chickens all the breeds ect.. I just got a Large Buff Orpington rooster last night he is 1 year old I hope to start flock over & have orpingtons I saw some bantam orpingtons they were cute but I want to know if i get some will my standard orpingtons hurt them & will the bantam rooster & standard rooster fight? Can standard & bantam orpingtons breed? what will the chicks be like?

Just saying howdy. Everyone have a good Saturday and enjoy this nice weather.

We're going to be working on hanging some siding and planting peas today. Have to wait til next week to have the money to do any more work on the new chicken coop. Will try and post pics as we go along.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It sprouted like this and it's first true leaves are coming out albino as well. I did an internet search and couldn't find anything. Just wondering if it will produce albino fruit as well. It's a winter squash plant from and heirloom seed company but all the other seeds came up green like normal and this one came out yellow. I thought it would green up as it got light but it hasn't. As you can see the other plants are all normal looking. I swear I get the oddest plants ever ...

Definately odd, I have no clue to the answer to your questions though.

Assuming we get our chicks in the next couple of weeks, what are the essentials we need to have to care for them? I have done the reading on the site about raising chicks and it seems pretty basic, but I want to make sure I am not missing any integral parts. There are a couple of starter kits at Atwoods, both under $20, but considering what I have heard so far about Atwoods, not sure it is a good idea or worth it. What do y'all think?

The only real negative thing I know about Atwoods is they are more expensive then Tractor Supply as far as feed and supplies, but if your talking about the chicks themselves, I have never bought any at a store like that so really don't know.

Chicks need a warm, dry, draft free, preditor safe place to live and grow, chick start (either medicated or not depending on your thinking on that) they do not need grit as long as thier only food is chick start, if and when you start giving them treats or letting them out where they have access to other things they may eat then the need "teeth" or grit or sand or dirt w/ small stones etc....

I used to work at Atwoods. I was the chicken seller since I was the only one who knew anything about the poor things. They get their birds from Ideal hatchery.

If you can, go to a local auction and get the items you need from there. Atwoods, the starter kits anyway, are a waste of time and money. You'll wind up needing WAY more feed than what is in those starter kits anyway.

Got some questions. We are getting ready to get a chick or a few; what size brooder box should we're get, what type of bulb, what temp should it be and how do we regulate it and what type of feed? Basically I need a shopping list. Can someone help please. Also when do we switch to different type of feeds?
