***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Desert I was hoping a few others would chime in about your offer. The hardest part is finding a place that will have LOTS of room & allow hundreds of birds plus have bathrooms & power. I am not sure how many OKIES are in your area, maybe they will speak up over the weekend & say. I was thinking another option is the ag building where Newcastle sale is could be a nice spot. It is a good clean location that will allow birds & rabbits. Plus it has a small kitchen & a park across the rd for the kids. The hardest part would be reserving the building. I know I am not up to planning any HUGE event alone, but I will be happy to help. I don't want to step on any toes if others already have something in works.

Got a new GQF catalog this wk, has thermomter/hygrometer different than the ones we have. It isn't on there site though??? Was considering ordering a few, but kinda nervous. We have purchased way too many bad thermomers!

Oh I hope this week gets better. Yesterday my little BCM roo was just being his typical lover boy self and then when I went to put birds away he was dead. I don't know what happened. No illness nothing. Then went to check all waterers and nests for the night and Kurt's little silky chick isn't doing well. It has always been less than thrifty but we really thought it would make it since it is now 8 weeks old. But I am betting by time dh goes to feed birds in the next hour it will be gone. They kept it in the house yesterday feeding it and keeping it with water but by last night it wouldn't take water. Plus add in that none of my hatches are working I am getting frustrated. The eggs are developing but not hatching. I have checked the humidity, temp, ect. Everything is textbook perfect. This last hatch didn't have any temp swings and maybe had less than ideal humidity for about 8 hours while I was gone to work one day but other than that was perfect! Others have hatched eggs bought from me so I know it isn't the eggs, I have to be doing something wrong and I need figure that out asap.

Then got home last night to find the dryer quit. This is the 2nd one isn 2 weeks to go out. We have two washers and two dryers since we used to have my brothers 5 kids and my 6 it made sense. But the new dryer went out last week and dh replaced the heating element only for the computer to go out the next day. Top that off with the older washer (only 9 yrs old) went out, then the new one (4 1/2yrs) the pump is going out now. Then the 2nd dryer went out yesterday. So we have a washer that doesn't always pump the water out and line drying for 8 people. Then dh went to check why the hot water doesn't seem so hot to find the electric hot water tank is going. I think I want to run away from home! LOL

I told dh I think I will sell a few of my BCM hens, put the rest (who are special to me) in the laying hen pen and down size some of my cukoo marans. I hate to do it but right now I just need to simplify the birds and elliminating one breed will help with that. On the plus side I think one of my SLWs pullets is laying. The kids found a white egg in the pen of BCM and SLWs so it has to be the SLW. Either that or my Lav. Orp is laying and I don't think she is old enough.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday, Kass I loved the pictures you posted. I can't wait for the beautiful weather to be here on a day I have to just spend outside with our birds.

Funny I was thinking the same thing about the Newcastle barn. I also am willing to help.

Thanks for the info about POOPS. If I can be of any help in planning let me know and I'll do whatever I can.

A simple swap and potluck sounds like a great idea!

I'm near Mcalester, Ada, Atoka, Holdenville...that area of the state. You know, the land of a million oil wells.

If anyone has a date in mind I could setup a place and all that jazz.

I've never been to one before so I'm not sure how the work or how long they last, but if doing something like an all-weekend or, if there's a holiday that would extend it into a 3 or 4 day weekend, I'd be up for that and could stake out an area and hold it for the duration. Of course, where I'm at there is access to quite a bit of area to hold it in this part of the state, including a small community center which is never really used, making it free most of the year for any kind of event.

If anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know. I could even design a website for the event with contact info and whatnot.

If this gathering uses the name P.O.O.P.S., permission must be obtained form the original P.O.O.P.S. organization/planners/group. Monty, Al, Sooner, et. al. Those folks need to be contacted anyway, because there may be a plan already in the works.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I couldn't get the multi-quote function to work yesterday. Looks like I've conquered the operator-error problem today.

I would love to help if people want to arrange a chicken swap and pot luck. The building I rented at the fairgrounds in Muskogee last year may be cost prohibitive for a smaller event. The expenses for that location are as follows: $100.00 for the facility for 8 hours. $20.00 per hour for security (two officers required), so the total is $320.00 for security. $420.00 would be the amount to consider if the show barn in Muskogee is requested.

If 40 families committed to attend, the cost would be $10.50 per family. The bonus is that we'd have bathrooms available, water, electricity, a big facility, lots of parking, and armed security. If we set the amount at $10.50 but exceeded that number, then maybe the first 40 people to pay could split the overage. That would be the incentive to sign up and pay early.

People may want to invite friends who aren't regulars on BYC, which would require an agreement, early, from planners: We'd have to know if these folks are welcome, providing they pay the per family fee to attend. This makes the event larger, but the first forty attendees may end up attending for a greatly reduced cost.

If people want to use the show barn in Muskogee, I volunteer to rent the facility and hire the security personell. I'll need lots of help to get the word out so that we can cover the $420.00 before event day. I know it's a long way to travel for for many folks. There are many, many hotels in Muskogee that could be used by attendees if they can't drive up and back in the same day.

Your week sounds like a National Lampoon's movie. Heres to you Luck changing.

I sent a message to Al, Sooner & Buckguy about Poops. I am sure there were other people involved in the planning, I just can't remember the names. Hopefully we will hear something soon.

Poco I totally agree the original POOPS creators should be consulted. That is why I said I didn't want to step on any toes. Also thankful people want to continue the annual get together & are willing to pitch in & help!

Cathy I think after work you should just get in the car & drive to a nice hotel. Come home after your husband has fixed everything.

POOPS last year at Choctaw had a nice facility too.
We had a nice selection of auction items and the Children's Egg Contest was really fun.
Hope to hear from the planners....

Fog has lifted nicely and I have planted some tomato and pepper seeds in seedling pots. Plan on heading back out to the garden to put up the chicken wire around the garden perimeter and to work on a few more beds. Yesterday was able to clean out the asparagus beds and the three big beds to plant onions and soon the potatoes. Need to clean out some of the panel beds to make room for the peas.

Since I'm fairly new here I didn't know who to contact regarding POOPS this year.

If there is already an event planned that's great. If not, and people would like to get together I am more than happy to do anything I can to help plan the event, and it wouldn't have to be called POOPS, if that's going to be an issue for the planners.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for any updates from the original planners. If nothing happens by a certain date, I would suggest anyone interested commence planning a similar event so that we can all meet up and do our thing :)

Thanks for the update!

Stay dry today. We just got hit with a massive down-pour of rain here in the SE corner of the state.
