I am not a chicken disease expert at all, but seems like her egg laying plumbing is having "glitches" is she a new to laying young hen? Older hen? Either of those situations it is almost "expected" to have some glitches like that and will work itself out. If she is a hen in her prime I would think either a nutrition issue (not as likely since she is the only one) or an egg system issue, she may be at higher risk for internal laying, or other egg laying issues, but don't think there is anything you can do profalacticly for that.Kass,
three times over about a month and a half, they are not soft. They are hard, but very thin shelled. No, she is not showing any other signs of sickness. No sneezing, coughing, abnormal poops, etc. Havent seen anything abnormal in any of my chickens actually.
Your welcome. I saw the pics you posted on FB of you sister, her recovery has been amazing!okay, that makes me feel better. I think she has been laying for atleast a year or so now. So it very well may be that there is a glitch in her system somewhere. Everything I was reading yesterday was talking about Infectious Bronchitus, but she doesnt show any signs of sneezing, coughing, etc. So until I see other signs, I think I am going to go with that. Thanks Kass!
Indeed it has. She is such a walking miracle and has NO idea! I had taken her to see the nurses that cared for her at OK heart in CCU, and theyre jaws hit the floor when they saw her walking up to them, and saying hello. As you know, she has a very poor prognosis throughout her stay there. Her neuro, and cardiologist both said that she would be a vegetable the rest of her life. They were obviously very wrong.Your welcome. I saw the pics you posted on FB of you sister, her recovery has been amazing!
Thank you Betsy. Sounds a lot like day lilies in terms of pollination. And germinating sounds like geraniums. I'll try it this year ....if my hostas come up. Do you notice any die off in the plants from which you gathered seeds?Nanacat, I keep forgetting to respond to your (I'm pretty sure it was you) question about getting hosta seeds. Some hostas set seeds very readily, others don't. If you'll go out early in the morning and use a finger or a small paint brush or something else to move the pollen to the pistil, most hostas will set seed. The real trick is to get the seeds to germinate, but once you know the key, it is easy. The seeds must be covered only thinly and the entire seed flat or whatever you use has to be closed tightly with a cover of some kind for the first two weeks. I put mine on top of the refrigerator. After that, they need to be opened and put in indirect sunlight. The seedlings are very easy to work with as long as you don't keep them too wet. Hosta seedlings are almost as cute as baby chicks, and a lot easier to care for!
My Ari, is now keeping TonyO's aracuana ladies happy, enjoying chest rubs from what I hear from Tony. He has promised pics of the little ones when they hatch. But I still have Little Man, he is looking better every day, may not ever be as vibrant as Ari though. And Little man and Jaxom are officially roos now I guess, they both have attempted crowing, and mounting, much to the distress of the ladies, they didn't like either one much before, now they really don't! lolEvening all my Okie friends!
Nana you have got to be the busyiest woman I have ever heard tell of,well except for maybe Kass!lol You all sure do stay busy. Allways enjoy the farm and garden reports from both of you!
Got ot go to the auction today. It was a huge turn out. Nice day spent visiting with new and old friends. Lots of interesting birds and animals to look at. Goats are going really high here. As are sheep, mostly the hair sheep. Hogs are way down. Saw several 300-500 pounders sell for $50! Of course they were boars so the meat would have been bad till they were cut. But even young "thin" sows as we used call them were under $50 . I guess the grain prices are haveing an effect.
I came home with apair of silver spangled hamburg bantams a nd a trio of rumpless aracyna bantams. The roo is cute but not as classy as yours Kass! Also bought a what was listed as a "red pyle" o e bantam roo. He is totally mismarked, being mostly reddish all over but he is so tiny and cute I couldn't resist him. I have a little wheaton o e hen I will put him with. He is no bigger than a serama! Weather was nice here but rain moveing in tonight. I did get some radishes planted this week.
Everyone have a great weekend.
