well what are you asking on them lol ... cause id like to get some turkeys , you know turkey manure is a natural merick vaccination , sorry for spelling lol , sounds gross but you sprinkle the feces on the chicks feed
really that is interesting it almost makes me want some but unfortunately i don't have room for turkeys.

Donnie~

Are you looking for NNs? I have a barred NN project going right now and would be happy to get some eggs to you. The last little hatch I did in January I ended up with 9 NN pullets (all barred) out of 20 eggs. 2 black NN that I assume will be roos since they are not barred and 9 non NN birds. Just let me know.
My dad was born and raised most of his life in Vian/Gore. I still have a lot of family there. When my husband and I are old enough to retire, we hope to move to Vian to live. I feel such a connection when I am there. Also in the Black Gum area as well since a lot of my family is buried in the cemetery there.

Thanks Donnie and Kass. I knew there was something about the lethal part just couldn't remember what it was. I wonder if the 25 percent part is less if you go tailed to rumpless or if that would make any difference. Mine are not tufted so I guess that means they are poor quality or crossed. But they are cute and different anyway.
Joe that was a good turnout! Glad it worked out for you. Is this going to be an annual thing? I know you put a lot of work in into it ,I'm sure it was greatly appreciated by all.
No rumpless or not is completely irrelevent for the lethal gene.

Tufted or lack of tufts does not mean pure or not pure, here in the U.S. tufted is preferred, however a bird can be completely pure and be non tufted. I do not think though two non tufted birds can produce a tufted one. When breeding tufted to tufted, or tufted to non tufted you still get a % that will be hatched non tufted.

Hi, Okie friends. I haven't updated much because we have been making a mental transition. What with my spider bite this last summer, a heart procedure this winter, and the overall outlook for continued excessive heat and drought during our Oklahoma summers, we have decided to hang it up on the farming thing. Too much work for someone in too poor health, with too many grim forecasts boding poor opportunities to farm successfully the way we want to farm.

I've avoided this site mostly because I knew it would influence our decision-making process. Y'all make this chicken thing look like too much fun, and I didn't want to be influenced by emotion. I wanted to approach it as rationally as possible. We are moving into town about 3 blocks from our respective work places.

We aren't completely giving up the farm or farming, though. My daughter and her husband are moving up from Texas and taking over the farm. I will likely work with them while they learn how to do the chicken thing, both eggs and (hopefully) meat. I gave them a copy of FRESH, the movie, several years ago and it has apparently sunk in. They will take over my young layer flock, and maybe do some farmers market sales. As a stay at home mom, it will allow my daughter to generate some income while working at home, raising their own food.

We will eventually get a few chickens for our place in town for our daily needs, but in the mean time, I will make frequent trips to the country to help them, train them, and help them plan for the future.

I wish I had stumbled onto all this 20 years ago when I still had the energy, but working full time and farming sustainably part time... just too much.

At least it is staying in the family, I get to dabble a bit, and will have my sweet daughter and wonderful grandchildren close at hand, to see them whenever I want. I'll keep my processing equipment with the dream of eventually building that MPU and sharing it with my chicken friends.

So, I won't be completely gone.

Was wondering if anyone has tried the WinnersEdge for poultry additive and if so, would you recommend it, your success/failure stories with the product. A co-worker of mine recently became a dealer and is wanting me to try it. Just looking for some feedback so I can figure out whether to try it or not.

Thanks,
Lori

Thanks for sharing your plans. Hearing your news makes me wish I'd prodded my dh into moving to the country sooner. What processing parts do you have for the mobile processing unit? Maybe some of us have the other parts and they could be united for use at the sites where they are needed.

Hi, Poco. Actually, I have pretty much all the equipment I would need to build two of them, if I wanted. Scalders, 2 pluckers, high tech kill station with shackles, 11 kill cones, three processing tables, and a sink. The only things I lack are proper trailers, and a way to attach everything to them. I'm thinking about using our big trailer for a big MPU for somewhat local jobs or big endeavors (several hundred birds at a time), and buy a smaller trailer for longer distances.
