granny, you should have seen the trio of white Leghorn Bantams he brought to auction, they were awesome....I would have swiped them but I just really like color and white not so much!
I did get Sumatra eggs, blue/black Cochin eggs, and a Serama and mottled frizzle Cochin Bantam from Joe, so yes he does sell them too!

How about some weather reports from you all. From what we are hearing/seeing back here you all are about or already getting it bad! Stay warm and safe!

So glad to see it!, I have a request, my cousin is in ICU on Life Support, I would ask each of you that pray to add her to your prayer list and thanks in advance!!!

Nana thank you for the info. I printed this out to put in my notebook. Right now the 7 chicks are in a rubbermaid tub in our school/playroom. And seem to be doing fine. (I wanted to keep them in our room last night because I just wanted to watch them till I fell asleep but for some reason my hubby frowned on that idea... )

I know I will need something larger for the meat chicks currently in the incubator. These are due to hatch on Friday.

Notsuperwoman,
To answer the question about what size brooder you need. Here is what i have:
With a total hatched is 19 yesterday and today and the 35 Carl hatched for me, and the 7 hatched mid week last week, there will be 61 in the 38 x 45 inch brooder.
They will stay there until 2 weeks of age.
Then they will move into a 4.5 foot by 7 foot floor pen for two weeks.
Next they will move into the floor of the brooder room or outside depending on the weather for the next two weeks. The brooder room is a 12 x 11 foot room with wall cages for breeding and brooding babies under lights and includes the floor pen....so square footage for the play space is about 100 square feet. This area can handle several hatches.

So far the chick living arrangements are
61 in the brooder
46 and a hen In the floor pen
35 on the brood room floor..they think they are in heaven with so much room.
When the next hatch comes in two weeks..the groups move again.
Each area has a heat lamp set at different heights according to their age and ample feeders and waterers.

in the past, I've used a wash tub with a screen cover, a cattle water trough with a screen cover, a big cardboard box , a used baby play pen. You can be creative, you simply need a safe heat source and room enough for the chicks to move about safely without escaping and protection from the curious pets or predators as well as something easy to clean up after the chicks.

Cjarvis if we have not found anything by then, please remind me of these then. She does need to get a pair of serious show birds, because it is her 4H projects, but we do have to keep budget in mind. Thanks.

I will have some absolte top notch Rosecomb Bnatams available this fall, or OE Bantams this fall if she is wanting show seriously.

Care Bear your yarn creations are really cute. I am trying to get a lot of knitting done in what spare time I have to use up the cabinet full of yarn I have. :)

Kass, is there a section of the forum or a certain thread where I can treat my crochet addiction? I hadn't crocheted in a while and I needed a few fresh props for my clients. So I started crocheting and can't stop or slow down! Lol. I just found some killer deals on eBay and went yarn crazy. And my room is covered in projects. Lol
It went from props to backdrops for newborns to gifts for all my friends. Ha!

GuineaGuy what are you asking for your Cochins?
thinking of selling this pair of show quality Cochin bantams if anyone is interested their tail/cushion are usually way fuller but there in heavy molt still laying but molting lol.

BanjoeJoe.... That is a BEAUTIFUL rooster. My daughter saw these pics and commented how pretty and good looking he was for about 3-5 minutes.

I hope your hens like him as much.... lol

Sorry to hear that she got the flu. Hopefully it passes quickly.

My hubby too works in a nursing home and I am amazed he has not caught something this year!!

Pamper your wife and make a pot of home made chicken soup!!

So far today it is nice, sunny, in the 50s. Perfect weather!

We are going to push hard to finish our chicken house, including siding. I also have 2 trays of plants that need to be planted, but the chicken house comes first. I can replace a tray of seedlings, but I don't want to give any opportunity for this wood to get wet for 3 days and start to rot!
