***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yes, our turkey girl is doing much better today. She's standing up, eating, drinking, and cleaning herself ... and being totally annoyed that I vacuumed the dining room. Still going to keep her inside for a few days more.

Baby ducks are getting feathers finally. Ducks seem to take forever to feather out. Hoping I have more girls than boys when we they all get feathered fully.

AND ... drum roll please ... got my new strawberry planter built. We did a hanging gutter garden for them, hoping to keep them off the ground and away from roly poly bugs that seem to always eat them. Planted 18 plants today. Friday we're going to build a second one and put in 18 more plants. Probably won't be enough. Oh hey, I just thought of new great reason to have them hanging ... the chickens can't get into them either. Ha!
Are you sure?????

These cherries Oreo is feeding his girls he got from the tree. He would jump up and pick them then call his ladies.

Don't tell me that! Lol! Of course the only chickens we have where the strawberry planter is are the bantams. One could probably jump up that high but don't think he will and the other is a silkie. Just hoping it will deter the others when they escape into the yard long enough to keep them from completely eating the whole bed as they have in the past. (Oreo is so cute)

A friend put strawberries in her window boxes. I promise she never ate a strawberry, but her 12 chickens greatly enjoyed her efforts.
I was careful to plant mine not only out of the chicken area, but where they can't even see them!!!!! lol lol lol

But the roly poly bugs have me concerned, I didn't know they ate strawberries.

Yep, nothing quite like seeing a nice fat red berry and picking it only to turn it over and find its a hollow shell with a nice fat roly poly inside. Ugh. Maybe your garlic will help deter them.
