***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning : )

We're getting rained on. Just got back from church. Looks like the animals are staying in today. We're headed to Tulsa for lunch with our oldest and her family. Ted's Escondido is supposed to have some amazing tortillas. I'll let you know

DH surprised me with a sterling silver flock this morning (I'm a Saint Patty's Day baby). Seven "Chicken Little" retired charms and a rooster from Australia. The goat is late. He's coming from Australia as well. The safety chain is appropriately called "Dreamer." I hate to cry on my birthday, but I lost it when DH told me this way I'll be able to remember my favorite birds and know that they will be well cared for by friends.

Rooster. Gotta love a rooster.

ohhhh!!! Too sweet!!

We have 2 grown blue wheaten Roos, but DD won't let me get rid of them. I will let you know if we end up with extras from the eggs she has been hatching, oldest chicks are only a few wks old right now.

Newcastle was insane!!!! There was so many birds, the selection was endless. There was a few things I was interested in, but I started tuckering out around 830. I tried to hang in there, however @ 1030 it was obvious any birds I wanted to bid on were not near the auction table. There were many pretty birds, lots of temptation. Loved getting to chat with everyone, many I had not seen in months. Hate that I cut out early, but it prob saved me lots of money. Plus I got home just a few minutes after DH.

It was a great sale ! Wanted to stay longer too but needed to get the six lavender Americaunas babies you brought me put to bed . They love their Brinsea eco glow thing I just bought .

Thanks again Christina .

Birdwalk I hope the lavender chicks grow up to be healthy hens. Taron is so excited about hers.
Nana when you start culling you will have to make a trip to Newcastle to sale your culls. Promise plenty of people will be interested in your birds. Not sure when you will have the first hatch sorted, but in June prices begin to fall & just keep going down.
MJ thanks for posting the bird prices. Seen some calls on CL for only $25 each, their ducklings must be very fragile-- I noticed Holderead only sales adults.

Happy Birthday Coral! Love te new flock!

What an awesome, thoughtful, romantic gift!!!!!!

What does everyone have planned for today?

I have babies to move to the big brooder in the hot tub room and two week olds to go out to the barn in the brooder room.
ive already let the geese and layer flock out to free-range and while I drink my coffee can see them thru the den window picking around the compost pile in the cow lot next to the barn.
Im going to begin the process of sorting on the Cochin and Wyandotte chicks by leg banding the nicer chicks in the clans that I know I want to keep as possible breeders. At 10 weeks they should show confirmation to meet the Standard of Perfection. Then I will need to figure out how many to get ready to either cull or sell. It is amazing how much feed 230 chicks can eat...going thru 50 pounds in 2.5 days. The layer and breeder pens go thru 50 pounds in 2 days.

MJ... Those two cockerels from Muesky are so sweet and talk to me every time I pass their quarantine cage and they love apple slices.
Were there other Wyandottes at Newcastle? Were the peacocks from Bill Francis and his wife's flock?

Christina...It's good you were able to get out to the auction. Nice to hear you are better.
I didn't notice any other Wyandottes. If there were any, they weren't as nice as BLRs. The peacocks were not Bill and Kisa's. The guy that bought the BLRs also bought the Bronze Peacocks at Blanchard auction last year. I talked to him and he now has 8 birds in his Bronze pen! I don't think I have seen feathers more beautifully colored that those in the Bronze Peacock's tail.
