***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well, my birds sure don't like this cold and snowy stuff we've had the last few days. Heck, can't blame them. I'm not too thrilled with it either. It's supposed to be in the upper teens tonight up here but by Thursday the lows are only in the 50's. What the .... !!!!! My squash that I started waaaaaaaay too early indoors, is now vining and blooming. I keep telling my husband I was only joking about starting an indoor garden in the living room but right now I'm beginning to wonder. Baby turkeys are sure growing fast. Haven't sold them so we're just planning to put them on high protein fermented food and grow them up fast and send them to freezer camp. We like turkey sausage and turkey burgers and turkey hot dogs so my hubby is finding recipes to make his own so we don't just have plain ol' turkey stuffing the freezer. We've found we use our homegrown meat better if we process it to what we will use in a meal before it goes into the freezer.

Well, off to buy some feed and few groceries. Have a great day Everyone and stay warm until our REAL spring arrives.

Is Bambi in the barn?
We have "mooved" a pregnant cow into a pen in the barn before. We used one of the red heat lamps hung above the height of the cow. With hay on the floor, it was enough to keep the calf a little warmer. Temps tonight are expected to be in the low 20s. Hope she has them early while it is warmer.
I have her & her favorite weather companion in our smallest goat pen, it has a good size shelter & power (by extension cord). We had originally built this pen just for kidding & milking. When we take the weather out she gets mad. When I see her in full blown labor I plan to move the weather, he is very calm & shouldn't be an issue. I have one of those heaters that hooks on top of a propane tank & will use that if I need to sit out there with her. We gathered towels & old blankets for drying & warming kids. Fingers crossed we have a baby in a few hours!

QUESTION!!! My cousin has a game hen and she's been laying fine... But her last egg had like snotty clear stuff all over it and he said her vent is saggy and doesnt look right.... Is it possible she has a hernia..? I have no clue cause he just asked me and i was speechless...

Nana was thinking same thoughts as me on the feeder, empty the feed, adjust the opening then refill.
Oceans I was just thinking of you the other day. Hope the baby is well, and getting ready to crawl soon.
Triple S poultry sway should be great. I don't do facebook, but when Coral posted it I quickly mapped the location. Too far for us, but hope everyone else has a great time.
Gunmamma do you have any BCM? Think the ones we hatch look similar to your unknown chick.

Just ordered some call duck eggs. If I do well with them we may get rid of the mandarins, not sure yet. The mandis are pretty, but I prefer a calmer bird. Our guineas will even come to us for treats, but the mandis try to fly away anytime we are in viewing distance.
Bambi is showing signs of labor, or at least I think. She is not moving much & lots of discharge with small amounts of grunting. Trying to give her space & not stress her, but its hard. Imagine she will wait until the sun sets & temp drops below freezing tonight. Taron plans on recording the birth, could be interesting!
I have a hen and a roo but not sure if they have been together or not. It came from my mixed coop.

I know just what you mean! Thought I would get a jump on things so started some watermelon along with my other stuff, geez I will have to start over they are just uncontrollable in the house!! stupid ground hog I'm STILL mad at him! I swear even the ducks and geese are SICK of this weather!!!!!
Yep... Did you read about the lawyer that is pursuing the death penalty for Phill? I'm sick of the freezing cold, but that's just absurd.
Well he wont need much from you< but a little Barry White and a glass of wine would be much appreciated from your girls as they are in for an exhausting evening!!! just watch he doesn't ruff up his favorite to much, he will spread the wealth so to speak lol but he will have a fav.
He needs 5 or 6 of his own ladies, how many hens did you say you are running?
HA HA HA HA HA
About a broodie raising chicks..we had a city-slicker ask me one time..."where do the chicks get their milk if chicken nurses her babies?" when I was telling her that the hen would raise the babies. It was all I could do to not laugh.

oh dear... people scare me sometimes.

TSC has DE-- in the sales flyer, 20lb $10 -- I know others have a hard time finding it, so just wanted to share.

Bambi still hasn't kidded. Guessing will be a long cold night for me.
