***OKIES in the BYC III ***

so far good she stays roosted up with the bigger hens wont go near heat lamp at all actually none of my older birds would go near it when it dropped down to low 30's during the day I know she really likes to lay out in the sun I was shocked and worried about her during all the crazy storms we have had but she followed my big hens to all the right spots and is doing well what about you?

hey guys im new to chickens. I live in Cache Oklahoma  ive got 3 Ameracunas, 10 French copper marans, 2 Jeresey giants and 1 Silkie a lot of work but a lot of fun

Hi neighbor, I'm east of you in Hastings- on the west side of waurika lake.
Yes, they're a lot of fun & lots of work but worth it.
Glad you joined. Peeps on here are very knowledgeable & helpful. If you have questions about, or problems with your critters, chances are someone has already been there done that & have great advice.
Have fun & welcome

i spent half the day outside with 2 of my kiddos, and the puppy.. then after my son went back to his dads house i watched my youngest daughter pick dandelions, blow them around the yard.. so even though i do not have any chickens yet, my children will give them plenty dandelions. Then my husband, our youngest, and our dog all went to the park with some family and played disc golf. before all that it was cleaning the house... it was a pretty relaxing day all in all.

I love disc golf. I really like haiky creek. I haven't got to play this year yet. I spent the day replacing plants I lost from planting early, lol
And cleaning up the yard and taking care of my girls. Tomorrow im playing hooky and going fishing :)

Mine actually haven't arrived yet! May the 8th and my Silkies will be here then a couple weeks after that and my Barred Rocks will be here. I know the BR's are hearty all around and I've heard Silkies aren't so much so I'm hoping to have good luck with all of them! Glad yours are doing good! Hope y'all didn't get too much storm damage. We had a tornado come through and didn't know it

Built a new raised garden bed today along the west side of the new chicken pen. Hoping to grow winter squash and melons to climb the fence and provide some shade to the girls. Also harvested celery, admired my new tomato, and watered everything very well. Going to pick up a new Silkie tomorrow. Here's a couple of pics.

One of the baby bunnies. They have their eyes open and are running around making their momma crazy.

My husband with three of the heads of celery we harvested today. Going to pressure can the stalks and dry the leaves.

I actually had 3 rotaitions over my house that day I was worried about them coop floor and runs were flooded and she followed them up to the roost and was just fine my jer. giants ameracunas and her are about 9 weeks old and seem to be fine with the 30-40 degree nights without heat lamp and I have it a decent amount away from them to where it wont over heat them and since they are big birds im thinking they don't need it so I keep it on marans if its under 40 degrees the marans are about 6 weeks old ive had all the older birds outside since they were 6 weeks old getting use to Oklahoma since they came from my cousin in texas where it was much warmer. good luck with yours they should do just fine

I like the silkie but I have really became found of the jersey gians and marans

Canning celery is nothing I have ever thought of.

Our day was baby sitting, planting in the garden, fence work & double checking the floor plan of our house. Taron has a horrible sun burn from being outside all day.
Spray foam insulation goes in tomorrow & DH starts framing the interior Tuesday. Also have NPIP inspection on Tuesday. Hate that I will have all the birds crammed in cages on the hottest day of the yr.

Weatherman said everyone dress in layers for poops. Looks like a chilly morning & mid 60s in the afternoon.

Hello, I think it's time I joined in. I have been keeping up with this thread for a while but this is my first post. I'm in Lawton and spent the weekend working on our new coop/run. Lovein' the great weather.

Jcat--Big Louie may have infectious coryza...try looking for pictures and info about it. It is a horrible disease that tends to pop up in the spring. It also has a rather unpleasant odor...I hope he doesnt have it!
