***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass,

I love the flamingos....too bad we can't raise those, huh?

I loved the aviary in the Oklahoma plains exhibit. It was cool to have a pheasant walk by in touching distance.

A couple of my Flamingo shots from the zoo, they were nesting at the time and noisy!!!! lol

Would anyone like to give Little man a "non-eating" home? He is a black breasted red true araucana. He is rumpless and double tufted but his tufts are tiny. He is beautiful and a good representation of his breed. I would keep him except three roos are just to many for us, and Jaxom is starting to get agressive towards him, nothing dangerous yet, but I don't want it to go that far. He has no people agression at all, he is a young roo so even though he is not chicken agressive he is over hormoned like all young roos.

Kass I think someone will snatch that boy up. I would offer him a home if we were close to you. Just imagine all the cute babies he could make!!!

So I am on day ten of my first attempt at incubating eggs. We candled and weighed them tonight. Out of the dozen Cochin eggs I got from Rebecca one had a blood ring but the rest look good. The dozen Spitzhauben eggs I bought at the Blanchard auction 2 had blood rings and 3 were infertile and all 4 of the Japanese Bantam eggs from my breeding pair look great. They go into lockdown the day before POOPS. Hopefully the rest of the babies will make it. I'm pretty fired up to see them hatch. I think I have found a new addiction!
Oh you are in so much trouble... Hehehe! Incubating is so stinking addictive. I am glad the cochin eggs are developing nicely.

Thrush is a yeast infection from my understanding. Treat it with over counter yeast infection ointment. Also probiotics. Hope it helps!!!

Taron found Fat Louie sick today. Both eyes swelled up & not looking good. Hope he improves quickly she is very upset at the thought of loosing him. He was the first chicken she ever hatched.
Also 3 of the 5 golden lakenvelders I bought at Newcastle have died. Auction chicks are as much of a gamble as auction eggs.
Sorry about your chicks
Hi! I'm new here...saw and visited with lots of folks at Newcastle auction last Saturday and it was like a family reunion, had a blast. Thought I'd pop in here and just say hey to everyone else.

Had a ton of messages from several of you...answered most...my apologies for not responding until now. This is the first time I've logged into the BYC for some time.

Soooo, this spring is already busy...we have eggs hatching all shapes and sizes, chicks of all shapes, sizes, and ages on the ground...and putting eggs in the post every week.

Michael D has been wanting me to post some pics of some of the birds we have...perhaps soon.

Ya'all take care...and I'll try to pop in more frequent.

My broody hen has turned out to be a GREAT mom- but she lost one of her three chicks last night.

I couldn't find it this morning, but then I saw two little feet sticking out from under her wing as she walked around- it had been tucked under her wing overnight and managed to get some fluff wrapped around it's neck, poor little thing. It was the biggest chick, too.
Sorry about your chick
Hey guys, I am a procrastinator so when I went to order my Tshirts on Thursday evening I was shocked to find a shipping cost as expensive as the T-shirts for POOPS, so I called Kristen first thing yesterday morning and she was working on making a correction. Due to the error, they are going to leave the T-shirt order open until MONDAY. Also, anyone who already ordered Tshirts and paid that shipping cost will have a refund coming back to them. She said it will take 1 -2 business days for the refund to show up. So if you have not ordered your tshirt, maybe the shipping threw you off, please go to the website this weekend and order.

Here is the link.

1 Week Till POOPS!
I put in my order Saturday evening. Do you think they will have them ready by POOPS?
Hugs and sympathetic pats on the back to all that sustained storm damage...I know how that feels. The Piedmont tornado that came thru here missed our place but the hail sure didnt. We had broken skylights in the barns and shop...the number of beaten down plants and trees about broke my heart. I couldnt believe how many green leaves were on the ground...like carpet.
We cleaned the shop today. I am so tired my hair hurts, but it looks great. We made tons of progress and I think we know where everything is now.
Today my daughter saw a road kill racoon on the side of the road which someone had tied onto its paw a balloon which cheerfully proclaimed, "Get Well Soon!" She sent me a picture and I must say I couldnt breathe for about 5 minutes because I was laughing so dang hard. Ya take your joy where you can get it! I will gladly show the pic to anyone who asks at POOPS!!
I have seen the picture of the raccoon, it is so funny!
hey guys im new to chickens. I live in Cache Oklahoma ive got 3 Ameracunas, 10 French copper marans, 2 Jeresey giants and 1 Silkie a lot of work but a lot of fun
welcome-byc.gif

Built a new raised garden bed today along the west side of the new chicken pen. Hoping to grow winter squash and melons to climb the fence and provide some shade to the girls. Also harvested celery, admired my new tomato, and watered everything very well. Going to pick up a new Silkie tomorrow. Here's a couple of pics.

One of the baby bunnies. They have their eyes open and are running around making their momma crazy.
OMG! That is so stinking cute.
Hello, I think it's time I joined in. I have been keeping up with this thread for a while but this is my first post. I'm in Lawton and spent the weekend working on our new coop/run. Lovein' the great weather.

Newest additions to the flock from the past week.
Think I am going to take the 3 GL Cochin pullets to POOPS and keep these. Should have some more hatching this week.
I would like a few of them.
I went to the OKC zoo yesterday. First time in years. Some of the new exhibits are world class. Over hearing people identify animals made my day....calling the bobcat a swift fox and guineafowl a quail and then a henny. And of course an okapie is what you get when you put zebras and giraffes together.
Okapie are my favorite animal at the zoo.
Would anyone like to give Little man a "non-eating" home? He is a black breasted red true araucana. He is rumpless and double tufted but his tufts are tiny. He is beautiful and a good representation of his breed. I would keep him except three roos are just to many for us, and Jaxom is starting to get agressive towards him, nothing dangerous yet, but I don't want it to go that far. there were peafowl and swans wondering around loose

I thought this guy or gal was going to come after me from the look it its eye but it didn't

there were flamingos to but this was as close as you could get.

and you could actually buy a tree branch and feed the giraffes.

I actually had 3 rotaitions over my house that day I was worried about them coop floor and runs were flooded and she followed them up to the roost and was just fine my jer. giants ameracunas and her are about 9 weeks old and seem to be fine with the 30-40 degree nights without heat lamp and I have it a decent amount away from them to where it wont over heat them and since they are big birds im thinking they don't need it so I keep it on marans if its under 40 degrees the marans are about 6 weeks old ive had all the older birds outside since they were 6 weeks old getting use to Oklahoma since they came from my cousin in texas where it was much warmer. good luck with yours they should do just fine
Ahh thank you so much! I feel so relieved! Lol my ducks stayed outside for the first time last night but I left the light on but not directly on them since it was their first night. I was a nervous wreck lol they hated going up and were so excited to get out this morning
