***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am struggling with a decision today. My husband had a mini stroke 3 weeks ago. On his 1 week check with his Primary after he got out of the hospital, he finally had the mole on his face I have been concerned about biopsied. Results came back today that it is melanoma. We go to the specialist next Thursday to see what all the options are. His Primary told him to make sure to take me to the appointment with him because we will have to make some difficult decisions that day.
The decision I am struggling with is whether or not to downsize my flock so he does not have to help me so much with chicken chores. But on the other hand, he likes helping and most nights we sit outside and watch the chickens while talking about our day. Just not sure what to do. He would tell me to not downsize to keep all of them because he knows how much I like the flock I have now, but I don't want him to be burdened. I guess I should wait until after his appointment next week and go from there.
Anyway, thanks for listening....
So sorry, that's a tough decision. Being new here it is wonderful to see all the support and friendship of these Okie BYC members!!!

Finally got our sheep sheared today, we were waiting in the last Ewe to lamb.

And I sold a couple of more roosters today, so weird. Other than some Dominique chicks we sold almost two months ago all we have sold is Roosters.

Thank you everybody so much for your comments and support. That is the awesome thing about the members of this thread, we may not know each other on a day to day basis, but we are there for one another when needed. I will update everyone after our doctor appointment next Thursday.
Have a great weekend!

So far DH has not exhibited any allergy symptoms when in contact with the kittens. Cat's aren't on his list of irritants, so I'm hoping he does not develop an allergy. Therese is enamored with him. She has adopted him.

Looks like good weather today. I need to mow and weed. Free rangers are going to have to wait to be let out. They get so anxious, wanting crickets, especially, that I worry they will be hurt if they follow the mower too closely. I'll turn the yard into cricket salad, and then I can let the first group out.

So sorry to hear about this. It is really scary knowing something is wrong but not how wrong. Certainly you should wait to make that call - until you have all the info you can. But, just my two cents... If this work brings quality of life and value to him...then you should keep it. If it becomes a burden to the quality of life, then downsize. Very insightful of you to realize that what he says might be more for your sake than about how he feels for him. Our prayers are with you and your hubby.

i love it- and hey folks i have some more of these darlings needing homes!! hint hint!!

we have been inundated with flies here- so... has anyone tried using a 'fly bucket'? Read about it where you put bait in it and the larvae fall to the ground to be eaten by the chickens- wondering if it is a way to decrease the flies?

We have used the fly bags. They are smelly but work well. This yr I out fly predators in the goat pens & chicken pens. Seem to be working great. I have more flies inside my house than the animals have in their pens. I ordered the predators from Jeffers. Ordered the biggest package they offer.

Coral not to discourage you but kittens don't seem to bother me, but grown cats do. The dander must be different in some way. Not sure.
