***OKIES in the BYC III ***

here is a good thread on wound care-

basically i was thinking a broad spectrim antibiotic like duramycin just to be careful with any infection that  might set in

Thank you

So sorry about the losses to dogs.

Vetercyn is really amazing. Just one treatment saved my neighbor's rooster that had his comb torn down to the bone.

I am struggling with a decision today. My husband had a mini stroke 3 weeks ago. On his 1 week check with his Primary after he got out of the hospital, he finally had the mole on his face I have been concerned about biopsied. Results came back today that it is melanoma. We go to the specialist next Thursday to see what all the options are. His Primary told him to make sure to take me to the appointment with him because we will have to make some difficult decisions that day.

The decision I am struggling with is whether or not to downsize my flock so he does not have to help me so much with chicken chores. But on the other hand, he likes helping and most nights we sit outside and watch the chickens while talking about our day. Just not sure what to do. He would tell me to not downsize to keep all of them because he knows how much I like the flock I have now, but I don't want him to be burdened. I guess I should wait until after his appointment next week and go from there.
Anyway, thanks for listening....

So sorry to hear about this. It is really scary knowing something is wrong but not how wrong. Certainly you should wait to make that call - until you have all the info you can. But, just my two cents... If this work brings quality of life and value to him...then you should keep it. If it becomes a burden to the quality of life, then downsize. Very insightful of you to realize that what he says might be more for your sake than about how he feels for him. Our prayers are with you and your hubby.

I agree with bardies

I have cancer too and they keep me going. They made me so happy And if that is his enjoyment then by all means keep them. Get automatic feeders and waterers. Try to keep everything as much as normal as you can so he can recover.

But my best advise is take one day at a time and live every day as your last. ( never go to bed mad or sad) always remember the good and great times! And most of all smile alot and be happy!

I am praying for both of you. Even though you don't have cancer this will be just as hard for you too! Stay strong!

@artsyrobin...watch for cocci with all the rain we've had...I lost a LOT of chicks because of the damp.

will do- thanks for the reminder- my laying flock mostly free range, so hopefully that will help them stay out of it-
wonder if spraying the pens would work too??

I
I haven't tried the generic. It's the pine oil and scent that is the deterrent.

There was a cleaning lady giving advice on a radio program last weekend and she said she sprays a pinesol/water mixture on her patio to keep flies away during outdoor meals. I think she said it needed to be the original scent.

I went overboard on chicks (crazy, I know!) and have 4 silkies I need to sell if anyone is interested - 1 black and 3 white about 5 weeks old and have been handled daily (they know what a spoonful of yogurt looks like!) I'm in the Broken Arrow/Tulsa area.
