have been outside doing little things till it got too hot- my least favorite time of year-

i have found the perfect fly control- dragon the naked neck and her kids- they clear things out fast

We have been spraying the herds with Ivomectin and oils spray for flies. It has been time consuming since we don't want the cows to overheat in this summer heat. Calves c ant take the oil since they get to hot quickly. Moving some 16 to 20 month heifers to the registered bull today too. Sorting in this heat is the pits. Then, it it on to water gap repair and two fields are ready to cut and bale.

Broodies are sitting on eggs and the incubators are on the last hatches.

Potato bugs and baby grasshoppers are invading the vines...going out to spray with 10%Sevin. I've been hand picking the potato bug larvae...it's time to bring out the sprayer. There are marble sized tomatoes on many of those vines and the squash is about ready to begin picking. Summer has arrived in the garden.

This was on my FB thought I'd share w/ you guys.

Thanks. I don't think it is a starling, mama looked too small for that but I was able to observe mama taking insects to the rest of the brood.

I am having a hard time with know ing what to do when I get chickens (orpingtons are preferred, but I'll also take easter eggers.)
Should I worm them?
Do I need water protector/cleaner?
They will be vaccinated first, won't they?

This is the little baby I rescued this morning. I was able to observe mama bringing insects to the nest so my kids are now out bug hunting. I'm giving one drop of sugar water every ten minuted or so since it went a few hours with nothing before I could get it home. I suspect internal injuries due to a fifteen foot fall onto concrete and I'm surprised I even got it home alive. Any advice? Mama was small and black with white speckles on wings and tail.

If you get them from a hatchery you can ask for vaccination they usually charge about $1 per bird or so.

If you get from an auction usually not, but some people do vaccinate.

Worming is a whole can of worms, I would say research the topic then decide for yourself.

Hey Guys!!
Where can I sell some 4-5week old baby chicks. I have 7-8. Mixture of breeds. White rocks, barred rocks, black Australorps. I ordered from McMurrays an had them vaccinated. I really didn't expect them all to live! But all are healthy we just don't have the room.
