***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have lost 5 hens in the last week, poof, one day they were there and the next day not! I have 2 big neighbor dogs that run loose and have seen them in my pasture between the road and the chickens small pasture, and I'm thinking they may be the culprits. I just hate it because the first 2 that went missing were the 2 that my granddaughters had 'adopted' as theirs, and now I have to tell them they are gone. The rest of the hens aren't 'mean', just not the kind that would lie down when you got near so you could pick them up, like the first 2. I was readily able to identify them from the rest because of their markings. I really hate to tell them they are gone. Today one was on the outside of the fence on the other side clucking and wanting in and another was up on my deck in the yard. They have never done this and it's like they were scared and flew over the fence to get away from something. Then I counted hens and had 3 more missing. I found a breech in the bottom of the fence in one place and there were paw prints and a bunch of black feathers. I have several blacks so I don't know which one it is, and haven't gone out to figure out what the 2 others were yet. It just makes me sick that just because people live in the country they think they can let their dogs run loose. I keep my 3 small dogs inside a fence, for one reason that they do not get run over.

Ok, I think I am done venting now. Thanks for putting up with me but I had to get this off my chest. I am just soooooo mad! Those dogs come in at a culvert drainage that runs under the road and into a creek on our place and it is pretty deep. The county has big rocks in there and there isn't any way to block it off any more. The fact that they went through 2 fences to get to my babies just ticks me off. Why can't people keep their dogs at home! They also poop big piles all over my front yard and in my flower beds. YUCK! Not fun to come across when working in the beds, but that is another vent for another time!

Everyone have a great day and God Bless You.
They make a .22 shell with bird shot in it. It won't kill the dogs but they will remember not to mess with chickens once they get a few little bb's in the butt.

i have some birds to rehome, first is dragons kids- i know the nn is a cockerel, the other i'm not sure- these are bantam cochin mixes

The second pair is some cochins from TSC, they are very sweet birds

it wouldn't hurt to add vitamins to their water, silkies tend to get aneimic, sometimes it shows up like that- polyvisol infant vitamins without iron, a few drops in th water

Thanks for the tip, I will pick some up!

Something got under my fence and got my little white OEGB cockerel and I sold the Cochin pullet. I have the frizzle cockerel, buff silkie and polish free to good home to any BYCer.

this one- get a load of that tuff, i have no tufted ducks, the father is a blue swedish, mama could be swedish, harlequin or pekin....so tuffy is just different

Critter- so sorry. The rat shot is great. They will get the picture fast. We have brat shot on hand at all times. But I keep my shotgun loaded for that same reason except the dog was mine ( given to us he was a Great Pyrenees ) he has been given back. They don't have chickens and a pesky skunk. I will get that booger soon. It hurts when you loose your full grown hens to something like that.

Five acre farm yes it was the pair that had been kept in a dog crate in a little boy's bedroom...they were in rough shape when I took them in...Ninya was a Chinese White and Charlie is a grey African. Charlie has decided to buddy up with one of the white Cochin cockerels. He follows him everywhere and tries to encourage him to swim in the kiddie pool. He has been a lot more quiet without Ninya to protect and wants to follow me around the yard and garden. Thank you for the offer of a goose but Roger hates the geese...too noisy and were making deposits on the driveway and barn entrance...won't be adding any more.
