***OKIES in the BYC III ***

the mister's help, or a home made version, good point on the cool water- we don't have that option, our fridge died, and ordered one of those compact jobs, at least it will keep things cold- anyone need a dead fridge for anything? Then the water pressure is way low today, so normally i would water down the pens a couple times a day, can't do that today, so will be keeping a close watch on them and a bucket of water to dunk them in if they get overheated

sent the kittens to a new foster home today- cute little buggers, but house cats don't work for us- and now we are inundated with fleas- any suggestions on getting rid of them in the house?

Quote: Sounds like your rooster is on the mends.

Neighbor had 3 extra tons of sand from installing a pool, so I spent the morning moving half of it into the coop. Do you think chickens feel appreciation?
NICE! and congrats on the hatch

So looking forward to this next week with cooler temperatures and good chancesf rain in the forecast.

Hatched 8 blue copper maran chicks and one wheaten maran the last couple days, my first hatch! Have some lavender frizzled silkies due in 2 days and then a half dozen tolbunt polish due to come in the mail in maybe a week.. how does this become so addicting so quickly?
Well the addictive part. Farming and raising animals, its either in you are its not. And for those that has it in them. Once you get started there's no stopping you. Lol

Your best friend is your washing machine on hot water. Wash everything you can that is fabric; anything you can't wash bag up and put in the garage for 30 days. All bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, loose clothing, etc. Vacuum REALLY well every other day, including down in the couch and all the couch cushions, and throw away the vacuum bag immediately each time you vacuum. If they get in your beds bad you will need to wash bedding and night clothes daily. If you do this well for about 2 weeks that may take care of it. I try not to use the powders for the carpet because I have little ones (crawling stage) and I don't want them crawling around on pesticides. But if 2 weeks of this doesn't take care of them then I will dust the carpet and then vacuum VERY WELL two or three times.

thanks on the flea situation- the poor dog is in misery, ordered some stuff for her, did discover a bath in dawn kills fleas instantly- i have never seen this kind of infestation- i wonder if cats carry a different strain of flea?

well, no water at all now- sigh... at least it isn't as hot today for the chickens

artsyrobin, I got my trumpet vine as a plant, but you should be able to sprout them. A plant would grow quicker. jcatblum has a really good point about the vines getting out of control. I have never had the problem but that is what round-up is for if a shovel will not fix it.

I have got to find a way to keep my momma dog cool. She has now moved her pups under the shed, but is still hot. I tried to tell DH the dogs need an AC in the dog house, but he isn't sold. Momma dog gets in the pond to cool off a few times a day. I tied to drag her inside, but she is not a house dog and doesn't like the indoors. I just feel so bad for her.

So far we have not had any losses from the heat. I did have a lavender roo that was laid over & unable to get up yesterday. Soaked him in cool water & he looked better. Will be keeping a close eye on him.

Will be nice to have cooler weather on Sunday!!!
Try running water on the dirt keep her a wet spot and she should dig down and keep cooler.

If you use Advantage in the summer june-aug or maybe thru sept you will have no flea problems. That's what I have used on my Corgies and cats for years.....good luck!
