***OKIES in the BYC III ***

................BUT.....................the Keets still sell for 3.00 and up....sometimes Way up at the Chicken Sales. They do a great job on insect control when a Chicken Tractor insn't practical and people don't like using chemicals..........................

We love our guineas--have had them at least 17 or 18 years now. When we have to downsize, the guineas will be the last to go, even though I have a lot of very, very nice silkies. Our area is so overrun with ticks and grasshoppers, they guineas have been invaluable. We've gotten used to the noise, so don't usually mind.

The noise does not bother me and I am in an area where I don't have to worry about it. I just want them out of the coop and in the yard. Can't seem to convince them. LOL

Go into the coop at night....take them outside for a few times........they are smart enough to pick it up. Although, they are also smart enough to avoid predators like owls, hawks and raccoons....maybe that's why they are in the coop. I would LOVE it if mine would go in a night....that way I wouldn't have to replace the ones that something happed to........................................every animal has good and not so good things about it............................................if I were closer........I would GLADLY take those problems off your hands........................

I get my organic feed at Grogg's Green Barn over on 61st and 169. They are reasonably priced compared to anything I've seen online. I would call first to make sure they have it in stock-they seem to go through it pretty fast but are great at taking an order over the phone and holding it for you if need be. My girls love their feed-they won't eat anything else. In a pinch I tried to give them conventional feed and they wouldn't eat it. at all.

I have checked the resource pages, but I was just wondering if anyone around here knows of a good place to get organic feed and other things?

I know I haven't posted. I don't have any experience, so I don't have much input around here.
I forgot to quote you in my previous post but just in case you don't see my other one-Grogg's Green Barn on 61st and 169 has very reasonably priced organic feed.

I belong to an international guinea fowl organization, and some of the members report guineas living 12 years or more. I don't have any that old because we have a high predator load out here, and raccoons are smart and strong enough to foil many security attempts. You can train adult guineas to go into their secire/more secure pen at night with a little patience and diligence. My current flock will go in pretty much on their own in the late evening, and I can get them in at other times if I need to. They'll last many years longer if you can put them up at night. They do have good instincts about avoiding predators, but are definitely not infallible, and if left to free range completely will diminish one or two at a time if you have predators in your area.

I didn't know Grogg's carried organic chicken feed - thanks for the info!
