***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I belong to an international guinea fowl organization, and some of the members report guineas living 12 years or more. I don't have any that old because we have a high predator load out here, and raccoons are smart and strong enough to foil many security attempts. You can train adult guineas to go into their secire/more secure pen at night with a little patience and diligence. My current flock will go in pretty much on their own in the late evening, and I can get them in at other times if I need to. They'll last many years longer if you can put them up at night. They do have good instincts about avoiding predators, but are definitely not infallible, and if left to free range completely will diminish one or two at a time if you have predators in your area.
Betsy,
Can you tell me what color this little guinea is? I have helped Jack with lavender and pearl guineas before and this one isn't a pearl for sure and seems to have too much tan to be a lavender. None of Jack's flock or the neighborhood roving guineas are any color but lavender, pearl or pied pearl.
"Uno" showed up in our front yard a couple of weeks ago and already was a couple of weeks old. It must of been hatched by one of Jack's but we didn't even know any had hatched or where the girls were even setting - a mystery? I am not sure I want to keep it. Don't know how well one guinea would do in a flock of Cochins, but it sure is pretty and I am getting kind of attatched.

My Showgirl, Esmeralda, hatched 4 Ameraucana chicks and is taking excellent care of them.
