I've had velociraptor for over a month now. I wish it would fill out and get out of the Jurassic park stage.

I have a juvenile with a bum leg. He was limping around when I brought him in tuesday night and ate and drank when I put them in his cage. Added ACV and honey to his water as well. Last night he was worse and his leg felt feverish. His leg doesn't seem to be broken. Tonight he is not doing well at all. Won't eat and can't move around really. He just sort of rolls around and doesn't seem to want to use either leg. Should I give him Tylan?

can you post a pic? tylan is respiratory- what color is his comb and wattles, i am dealing with MG here and coordination and leg weakness is a possible symptom, so it could be a hint at what he is dealing with, the other thought would be a bug bite

I had a ten weeker go lame overnight and not get better, turned out he had a huge overgrowth of teste like tumors all up inside that restricted blood flow and nerve pathways to the leg (s) resulting in the severing of his main leg tendon and the near severing of the other one. I palpated his bad leg when it first happened but did not notice the tendon w/ the skin covering, didn't see it until after death and peeling the skin off the legs then it was very evident.

Question.....does the color in pullet's face change with her 'mood' like turkeys do? My oldest pullet's face changes from red to pale through out the day.

just had a quick visit with Poco, she was dropping of my capons- she does a wonderful job, they are oblivious they have joined the bug eating brigade now, and she gave me this girl- first time i have held a bantam cornish, very impressive girl

Talk about broodies... I had my share of finding dead chicks so am stealing the 'near' term eggs from my 7 ((yikes 7!)) broodie hens in hopes making chicks to stop this nonsense. I had my first chick returns to two hens last night (so now I am the 'stork') - each of them getting three chicks. Opening up the coop this morning, one of the hens had 4 chicks, one chick as lying in the area where she was nesting - apparently not as robust as the others (he came back into the brooder until stronger), so that left one. I looked the other hens nest box just in time to see her sneaking (SQUEEZING) herself behind the back of the nest box around to a neighbor broody nest to sit on THOSE eggs! .... so some mama hen (NOT!) abandoning a chick to go steal someone else's eggs. Darn. This is the hen I really wanted to start laying again too... I guess I will need to try to break her of this some other way. Oh well.... I am just happy that all six chicks are still alive and that at least one hen is off the nest. Updated: that first hen had three of her now 5 chicks stolen by another hen who I didn't know was broody. Maybe she was just babysitting! :)

i usually have broodies in their own little area, fenced off from the others, just to be on the safe side- then when the chicks get older i reintegrate into the flock- i'm probably a bit over protective of them
