***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner I had left for the sale already, she was really different looking white with some black spots/speckles? her and the male I had were the only two I had seen marked like that I hated to part with her I was sure hoping to try and get that color pattern out of the offspring, I will have some again just not sure when they were a lot of fun to have around.

Darn....I think frogwoodforest was looking for a white one too.

Awesome. Another woman who understands long-term planning : ) After my walk through Spain I'll be hankering for some featherless birds.

I was talking with a friend after church today. She wants to walk the Camino too, but her youngest is two years old. She said she'd have to wait about ten years, and then she could go. I told her that if I'm able, I'll make the journey with her.
I did the Angel fire Grand Canyon when I was 20 and again when I was 40, and man oh man was there a difference!!!! And it wasn't just missing the cute German guy I met on the first hike! lol (before I was married or even started dating my now husband)

If anyone is wondering I won't be doing it again at 60! lol

When we go out in the Ranger to check on the small herds, we are hit by Kamikaze hoppers..I've threatened to take a net with us to catch some to bring back to the juvenile pen...may still do that.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I've been thinking about getting a bug net to catch grasshoppers in the uncut front pasture. I guess I could freeze them to give as treats in the winter. Why buy mealworms when there is a ton of grasshoppers out there. My wisteria vine gets loaded with grasshoppers. I get the chickens to get under the vine and shake the tendrils so the grasshoppers drop down to the chickens. My 2 BLRW followed me around while I weedeated the fence line this afternoon to go after the grasshoppers I disturbed.

I was walking in the country a couple of days ago and was shocked I had forgotten what it's like not to have chicken eating grasshoppers.

Yes no feathers means no dander and you husbands allergies should be pretty much a non issue. I figure in the summer there will be no problem at all, people run around naked all summer except for a couple of swatches of fabric tied w/ string and they survive fine until melanoma catches up w/ them, I plan on eating them long before that happens (the naked chickens not the naked people) lol I think winter they will probably need a sweater, and will recovering from the capon procedure they will need a body covering. I asked Joe on FB if they can mate w/o interventions, but haven't heard back yet.

Sounds like that should be a new sport!

Quote: I've tried the catching grasshoppers in a net it can turn in to work fast LOL This year they are a lot thicker than I've seen in several years so wouldn't take long to catch some but if you take an empty gallon milk jug and cut an X in the side and go out after dark with a flashlight you can catch a whole lot more than you can with a net they freeze in the light and you just pick them off the grass or weeds and push them through the cut, add a rubber glove and there's no mess at all LOL I use this when I go fishing or I'm feeding reptiles, I haven't had to in a while since I'm raising the big roaches I'm really wanting to see how good a fishbait a Dubia or a Hisser would make, I really should do that to find out I haven't been in a while

a friend of mine posted on facebook that they had the family over for sunday dinner, and gave each of the grandkids a milk jug and flyswatter and sent them out to catch grasshoppers for the chickens, the kids had a wonderful time came back with the jugs full and loved feeding the chickens...thats the way to do it...:)

Hey, good idea. I thought I'd just make a whole lotta passes with the 4 wheeler with the net in hand. I got the milk jug. Last month I was walking around yard plunking them off plants/bushes and shoving them in a milk jug. Give it a good shake and put them in freezer for a bit to stun them and dump them out for the birds. They can get messy when they do that brown spit stuff.

LOL...I thought about using a flyswatter today.
