***OKIES in the BYC III ***

i just saw some mille fleur Cochin's online didn't know they came in that color!! wow they are sure pretty
I have been breeding them for 5 years and they still are my favorites. They are a tough breeding program since their pattern is all over the place and type is slow to improve but they are so pretty. I should get some pics and post them but everybody is moulting and don't look their fluffiest. Here is one pic, from July, of one girl trying to share a clutch with another broody.

wow, those are so beautiful my daughter really likes cochins and we both love this color she would love to have one but i bet they are probably out of our price range.

Mille Fleur Cochins are one I've always wanted and yet haven't ever had. Oddly enough I only have 2 Bantam Cochin girls and the Partridge pair. Strange since they're one of my favorite breeds.
Robin, I hear you on the Bantam Favs. I honestly think it's because the gene pool is too small for them, just like the LF Favs. My little Blue Salmon Fav boy is so dang pretty, but he attacks my feet every time I go in their pen. I really wish I could place him, otherwise I'll probably give him a hen from somewhere and put him in his own area. Out of the (close to) 30 roosters I have here him and my daughter's boy are the only 2 who are somewhat mean. My daughter's rooster is really bad. If he were my own instead of her's I'd put him down.
I seriously must have set these 5 Cochin/Orloff eggs late. I almost vaguely remember yet I do write every tiny thing down and can't find reference to it. Probably because I had too much chick stuff going on. I've had 3 hatch since yesterday AM. There's no way *3 of them could be 3-4 days late. Another one is wiggling around in there. Only 4 of the 29 shipped Silkie eggs hatched (6 don't count cuz I broke them). I had 9 total of my own eggs in there and so far 6 have hatched. I may not set any of the Cornish, Orloff or Brahma eggs-need to slow down anyway lol

Ksane: Without a broody hen to mother the chicks you would have a bunch in a brooder to babysit all winter...
I don't like to incubate in late fall or winter for that very reason.
I like chicks outside getting inoculated to their environment. They seem to do better with a hen to cover them for warmth. I set down floor boxes in the brooder room and leave the door open to the layer room for the hens to take the chicks outside when they want.

Rebecca: I sent you two PMs and some photos.
