I hear you! That video was really funny and so is Chickens being the "Gateway Livestock... hehehe!Oh My Goodness! I haven't laughed so hard since Chickens were pronounced to be the 'Gateway Livestock"!
SOONER CLASSIC--Traditional Table Top Serama Show was held at Keystone Lake, Saturday Oct. 26...It was a REALLY great show. We had exhibitors from several states and as far as Alabama and New York. Some really nice birds. Weather was good and we had the best hot dogs ever for lunch! Here are a few photos. ...and yes, that's Bob Warren.
My silkied roo 'Redman' placed Best of the Best.
My birds also got Reserve to Best of the Best, Reserve Malay female and Reserve Malay male.
And my 'Snowman' Reserve Silkied Champion to Best in Show 'Redman'.
Cochin/Ameraucana crosses are wonderful!!!This is so addicting! I've got the Gold Lace Brahma & a Dark Brahma egg in there and it was so depressing to realize that if/when they hatched I wouldn't have any more babies to look forward to :-( So I set some more Silkie mix eggs and started gathering up some more Cochin/Ameraucana mix eggs lol
Thanks, Kass. Very much appreciated.
Kass - I haven't been on the thread for a few days. MIL is recovering from back surgery (Mercy Hospital in OKC), and she's having a rough time. She went from surgery to ICU to a rehab center to the hospital once more. Symptoms of infection in more than one system prompted the return to the hospital.
I had to read your post about losing your flock three times before it sank in. I often pass small packs of stray dogs on our country roads, and each group reminds me that my free-range group is at risk. When we get together, we'll go through the pens to see if I have anything you can use. I'm supposed to be downsizing, so I've got a few pullets marked to keep as egg layers. If you want to take the capons you make here home with you, that would be fine too. I have more than DH wants me to raise. The buggers just keep eating and growing.
Noting says loving like chicken prezzies... Just saying!!!Of course, I guess I should have mentioned that I've become such a chicken nerd, that I got totally excited about getting chicken prezzies!
Well be at Newcastle myself this Saturday. Doc is going hunting with his brother so I am unsupervised...We are going to Newcastle too. If I make it thru this week I will need Chicken therapy!
Mitzi, if you are going to be there I will bringUno, the guinea. He sure is pretty but he has to go because he sure is loud.
Make sure the Poly-vi-sol does not have iron it.Get some baby vitamins at the drug store (like Poly-vi-sol) and give him one or two drops tonight and again the morning. Sometimes chicks that can't walk just have a vitamin deficiency- I find this is especially true if they sit on their butt and "spin" in a circle while kicking their legs.
Thanks for the follow up! Once I finish with this move I want to try it so bad!
So I am wanting to try fermenting grains but have a few questions. First does it have to be mixed grains? Can you use whole oats only? Do I need to add some yeast to start it? Also how long do you let it ferment before giving it to your chickens and lastly how does the temperature affect it fermenting?
Doc and I decided that we are going to start buying a few cheap roosters every auction to butcher. That way we only have in them what we purchased them for. I think it is ridiculous how expensive food is getting. Hence why I am working on getting the garden ready and building a greenhouse. Would like to buy a cow for milk but really do not have enough room right now for that...I want some but still trying to lock in a day that will allow me time to get them from you.
I paid $10 for a rotiessere chicken last night![]()
I only candle once and that won't be until the 6th. So don't really know how they are doing yet. What is the time frame of the hatch a long? I hadn't seen any threads about it.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Good luck with the coyote cleanup. I trespassed here but had to comment (poked my head in from Nashville.) We have had similar troubles in the past. It's tough to lose loved ones whether they be livestock, pets, or people, but we always have to look forward. We just have to. Focus on the positives and appreciate the moment. Plan well and work you plan. Let us know if you have any particular chickens on your wish list. There are lots of folks (near and far) who would be glad to help in any way we can!Hey fellow Okies! Thought I'd say hey from norman. Everyone keep warm and hope your feathered babies don't mind the chill today.
Id tell everyone all my breeds but I had a coyote pack somehow get into my pen and... Well yeah nothing left except for the few youngsters I have inside. So I am starting from scratch:/ such a pain. Definitely going to take care of the coyotes around especially since we have a ton of horses, don't want to risk any more mishaps!
