***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey, hi! You went from Shane to 4??? Oh my, you're a brave brave woman :) I always say-sometimes we don't need them but they sure need us. I think it's wonderful you stepped up and took them in. You know where to come when you're ready for chickens

rofl! I'm not near Tulsa and have my incubator full (I'm just as bad). You remind me of a guy on my fish forum years ago. He was SO excited to have found a 300 gal fish tank, he just couldn't pass up the deal, it was such a good deal. He's telling the others, "How am I going to get it through the door of my trailer that won't support a 300 gal tank??" lol
LOL!!! That sounds about like me. My poor husband. I don't know how he tolerates it but he is a good guy. I just told him and he isn't happy at all. He will get over it.

I live in Henryetta, and have an incubator that does not have any eggs in it anymore. But I have no experience w/ marans eggs.
I just spoke to my neighbor and he said he was sure he could do it for me. I wish you were closer as I would take you up on it! I will be crossing my fingers in hopes that when we do get them that there are no problems with hatching them. :-/ I'm sorry your last batch didn't work out. I was really rootin' for you!

Good! I was hoping that was the case. I've held back 9 cockerels for this year's breed pens. Some are back-ups.
You will have to see how pretty the hens are this year.
Steph and I will have to make it over sometime. We went for a little get away in Houston last week, I will be showing in Atoka this weekend then getting ready for Shawnee soon there after. I think I am making more shows than I really intended to this year but it is all working out.
Things are looking very promising for the nationals again this year I have had the last 2 years real good and I hope to get this one as well. I think my competitive nature is starting to come out a bit more.

I have been on the BYC so much that I have a chicken problem now. It goes along with the "chicken math" I have heard so much about. I just bought some eggs off ebay and I don't even have an incubator. Yikes! My husband is going to have a fit!   I couldn't stop myself! I got 8 splash marans eggs and I am really in over my head with these! I still have to pay for them but they are all mine. I have a feeling I will be posting to get rid of what I don't want out of the bunch when they grow big enough to tell what gender they are. I only want one hen. Oh my gosh what is WRONG with me!?!?!? Anyone near the Tulsa area that has experience with marans eggs that would care to hatch these for me? Let me know the price.

I am in south Broken Arrow, I have 2 incubators running now with space for more (I told myself I would stop 2 or 3 batches of eggs ago!) Marans were the first I hatched, I followed simple rules I found here on BYC and had a 50% hatch rate, which was one of my best for shipped eggs. I wouldn't mind incubating them for you, I will warn that shipped eggs can be disappointing though!

Hey does anyone know someone that builds coops on site? I would like to have one built a slanted roof 8' x 10' coop. With my wife's and my health issues it would be easier to find someone to come in and build it. We need someone good but also reasonable in price. We will have all the wood stuff. Also the blue prints. Thanks

Frank

2 Gold Laced Brahmas and a Dark Brahma hatched today, I'm in love. My 4 Dark Brahma girls will be 2 yrs old already in Feb. I love those girls so much. I've wanted a male Dark Brahma every since I saw one in person for the 1st time a year ago. That was the tallest, heftiest bird I'd ever seen. He was like a tiny bull with feathers lumbering through the guy's garage, man he was cool. Anyway, I'm hoping this Dark Brahma chick that hatched is a male, actually hoping for a male for once :) He's a people-chick already, all he wants is for me to hold him. The Gold Laced are going to be pretty, too. If I had to pick just one breed to keep it would quite likely be Brahmas. When they're chicks they just hang in your hand looking around, so calm. Wonderful breed.
The Gold Laces are on either side and the Dark in the middle. The 2nd picture is the Dark, he kept running to me when I'd whistle to get their attention lol

Went to go make sure the chickens were in the coop and the door had shut, and I brought them a dubia treat, anyway I find Aurdra bloody and almost scalped, and Shakespear w/ a little blood and red peck marks all over his head and neck and the hooda's cowering in a corner w/ heads buried. I stand back for a minute and watch the interactions and clearly identify the problem, Jackie O, the only chicken to have survived the massacre. (the others weren't housed in the same area). Gary is going to bring home some blue food coloring when he comes home, I will dye Shakespear's skin blue for now and left him in the pen for now. I took Aurdra out and cleaned her, she is alone in a kennel for tonight, she will get the blue tx too. Guess I'll take Jackie out tonight and put her in a kennel for a little while and hope that changes her attitude. I have always had an internally friendly flock and even w/ the few I have left (or maybe especially) I just am not going to tolerate this behavior. Anyway I will isolate and reintroduce and see if that works.
