***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@mjgigax they're so beautiful!

Thanks Kass. The more I watched it, the more I realized it hadn't pipped all the way around and was just too tightly packed to get around to make the hinge. I just picked a little more in a zip pattern, then tapped rhythmically on the bator lid to stimulate the hatching reflex. Happydance! :D

Of course, now I have a single chickie all alone and lonely.:(

Way to go, Kyz :) A baby! I want to see pics of it when it's fluffed. Is it one of the Dorkings??

Tina, you knew these people had no shame. I was gone for about a year and didn't hatch or buy a single chicken. Came back here a few months ago and I've got chicks falling out my ears.

Kass, I wish I had the talent and the patience to sew. I've got too dang many distractions around here.

MJ, those pictures are beautiful! You should post pictures more often. That Marans is gorgeous

He is young, tail feathers still growing and I think he will get bigger!

I think I want more Corronation Sussex. That little girl I got is a sweetie and a talker. I guess they get really big. Anyone have experience with Sussex?
I met the breeder selling the Coro. and Light Sussex at the auction and he said that he gets on this thread occasionally. I forgot to get his name.

If you are reading the thread tonight sir, - "I want to get on the list for more Sussex" - did I say that? I have some pen planning to do.

What incubator are you using?

I don't want to needlessly scare or alarm you, but I hatch in a brinsea incubator forced air w/ the fan up by the eggs, and no matter how much water I have in the wells I have a shrink wrapped problem at hatch. If I see no progress on an egg that long I always assist b/c W/ MINE that almost always means they are shrink wrapped inside.
It is the ten egg eco. I had the well full - a sponge about 1.5 x 3 with water and papertowels on the floor with water. The little tower always has had condensation and there has been some on the rest of the clear plastic as well...of course more in the beginning. In the last day or so, the sponge has visibly shrunk from giving up its water. So far, the three have hatched that pipped. I assisted the one that pipped on the narrow end. It did not seem to be too dry, but wasn't 100% ready. 99 44/100% though. Both chicks seem to be doing ok so far.

My name is Tina and I'm a chickenoholic. I fell off the wagon! I knew if I got onto BYC I would have chickens. I convinced myself I would just say hi to everybody and read posts. That I would wait until I am completely moved to get chickens again. Today hubby went and picked up two hens from someone on Craigslist. I was just browsing. I don't know how it happened!
LOL! I know what you mean! We had wanted chickens but then our neighbor kid was walking across our back yard with a rooster in his arms. That was it. The very next day we had arrangements to buy some of his hens. Then up with the coop and only weeks later I am buying chicks off craigslist and eggs off ebay. I have no idea what I am doing but the people here on BYC are so very helpful! I will try my first at incubating eggs this weekend. Who ever said that chickens were like potato chips and you cant get just one was absolutely right!!! I am just enjoying mine to the fullest!

This is Pixie, my smallest Mille Fleur hen. She is best pals with Peaches, my huge, LF Buff cochin hen.

Robin, this is O'Brien. He has the best type of the two boys and has more white/buff in his pattern.
that pixie is a doll! its so funny to watch them make friends- i have a black astralorp that always welcomes the new comers

I think i lost my heart to Obrian! he is stunning! need to figure out a chicken taxi

spent the day setting up the silkies in the big coop, decided they will all stay warmer that way, so i have a silkie section now and the layers weren't so sure thay approved -

Kass, I'm fairly sure an Isbar egg is still alive, 23rd day, no pips. It has a detached air cell, so I'm shocked. The Dorking keeps laying over it and peeping to it.

Would you assist or wait?
