***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Roger took care of the chickens and dogs last night while I babysat the two little grandsons in Edmond.
He said the chickens went in to their coops just fine and all he had to do was shut the gates and put up the screens. Then once settled in his recliner in the den....the dogs leapt toward the window and started barking at something in the driveway. He looked out and thought he saw a huge white cat creeping up the drive. He went outside to make sure there was not a chicken still out. When he approached the cat to scare it off, he realized it was a huge.....white rabbit with grey on it's face and neck..biggest rabbit he has ever seen. It took off like a shot towards the back of the barn and the hay bales.
Guess I'm going to have to try to trap it before a coyote gets it. May be someone's pet or meat rabbit from how he described the size.
And
A cow had a calf yesterday and we saw two coyotes in the south 40 near the cross gates out searching for afterbirth. Then the boys found coyote droppings up by the cube feeder which is 100 yards from my pens.

And
Took my car into the shop yesterday because the "service engine soon" light was on all the way home from Edmond on Sunday. The shop called this morning to tell me the results of their check-up....going to have to drop the gas tank to get to a rat's nest on top of the gas tank...

And
Getting feed for the chickens today...had a mouse pop out of the sack of Calf Manna and noticed droppings in the brooder room where a hen tosses out feed...so threw bags of rat poison behind the refrigerator and under the pallets where feed is stored.

Sheesh...winter is here.

Dang Nanakat. I don't know if it will help, but I've found that peppermint oil with a bit of eucalyptus oil really works to keep mice away. When I use it, however, I put it in glass dishes on top of my floor registers, so the heat can disperse the smell through the house. I'm not sure that would work in an unheated area or in the belly of a car. It works great in the house, though!

Wonder if it would work as a spray into the mouse holes in my pen or on the sides of the feeders?
Thanks for the tip. Most of my birds are bantam and don't chase the mice. Those rodents eat a lot of my feed!

I cleaned the bator to my best ability of thinking it was clean. I QUICKLY cleaned it with a little bleach to see if that would help and antibacterial dish soap with a super lather. I put it all together and it still has a musty sour smell to it. I sniffed all the eggs with no luck. It doesn't smell outside yet so I'm keeping a very close watch with my nose.

Where do you get Oxine at?

I ordered Oxine online through Revival Animal Health.
