And the showgiirls from Betsy...

So Cute! That tiny mama in the middle of all that pretty fluff
I love my showgirl from Betsy - our friends call her the Designer chicken. She has such a curious personality.

I wrapped my pens a couple of weeks ago. I covered the North and West sides. They are quite cozy. I think I am going to like the prairie grass for nests and bedding. It seems to hang together better than straw and especially shavings. I am concerned that straw could get caught in their crops. I think that may have been what killed the Blue Mottled hen in my avatar.

I have been home for 3 days this week because the sinus infection that I fought with in October is back. Yesterday I went to the Dr. to get another antibiotic. Since I can't take sulfa or Penicillin I got a Z-pack again and a steroid to boost it. The Dr. said I could take 1/2 a psudoephedrine too to help clear my sinuses. I have to be careful with that since I take BP meds. Yesterday my BP was excellent- 120/60.
Thru the night I kept fighting a headache and this morning it got terrible. I haven't had a migraine in years but this was so terrible . Luckily Joe has home to take me to the ER. Sure enough BP was thru the roof. (Yes, I have a BP cuff but didn't think to take my BP .)
Head hurt so bad I didn't notice all the shots. I am still groggy from what ever I was given but my head is better.

I hope you are feeling better soon! Sinus infections are horrible. Glad that your DH was there to take care of you. I was down with a fever (surprisingly few other symptoms....mini flu?) that got really bad (104) the night he came home from Dallas. Not sure I would have taken anything had he not been there to get it for me. Fever broke and was lower the next day. I had no idea that it was as bad as it was. Thankfully, I don't have any other health conditions to worry about. Did they give you more or whatever it was to keep the head ache under control?

One pip in the Brinsea, I think two voices though. Nothing yet from the no window hatcher. But this 'early' you have to time it just right to hear anything. Chickens are secure, cows have new hay, kids went and let our 'outside' cats in. Pretty sure that one of the cows will calve tomorrow, so will be out braving the ice, etc. Oh well...the price we are willing to pay!

Battened down the hatches earlier this evening and enjoying a warm blanket in the den. Trying to get a little research on genealogy done.
Hope everyone stays nice and warm the next few days.

Sorry you are ill, hope you start felling better soon, I just got over that junk it is no fun. I don't know how it effects chickens but my DH wont use prairie hay for our pigs because he says it attracts lice just thought i would give you a heads up just in case it would be the same for chickens. I have heard some ppl talking about using sand for a littler in the coup it suppose to dry up the droppings i'm thinking about trying it.

Dose anyone know what time the Shawnee show opens up to the public. I looked on the web site and it didn't say.

MJ. sorry you are ill. I understand completely, as I am subject to infections also--my sinuses drain--it ends up with bronchitis for me. I, too, am allergic to penicillin and sulfa, additionally, cephalosporins (Keflex), so it's always a scramble to find an antibiotic I can take. The addition of Prednisone is always what gets me through. It usually takes two or three rounds of both. I'm fortunate that my blood pressure is very normal to a bit low. I was sick before our China trip; went through two rounds of antibiotic and Prednisone and doctor prescribed an extra dose of both to take on our trip. Fortunately, I didn't need it--wore a mask most of the time while there.

Hope you get better soon!
