Not sure of an official opening time, but people come in any time the building is open. The building will be open to receive entries and show birds Friday from 3 til 9, and will open Saturday at 7 to receive birds. Everyone should be set up by around 8 a.m. Saturday, but most will continue to groom their birds right up until the judge comes to their row. Of course, you cannot be in the aisle that is being judged and should be careful not to get in the way of others who might be preparing their birds. Judging begins at 8:30 a.m., the 14th.

I hope you are feeling better soon! Sinus infections are horrible. Glad that your DH was there to take care of you. I was down with a fever (surprisingly few other symptoms....mini flu?) that got really bad (104) the night he came home from Dallas. Not sure I would have taken anything had he not been there to get it for me. Fever broke and was lower the next day. I had no idea that it was as bad as it was. Thankfully, I don't have any other health conditions to worry about. Did they give you more or whatever it was to keep the head ache under control?

It has been years since I had a migraine and I had no meds for it. They first gave me Tordol (sp) for pain then something to lower my BP. Then the gave me a combination of Benadril and a nausea drug for the migraine. They said it is the latest treatment for migraines. Imitrex isn't often prescribed anymore; too many side effects and not consistent success. Then they gave me another drug for my BP that make me very sleepy.

One pip in the Brinsea, I think two voices though. Nothing yet from the no window hatcher. But this 'early' you have to time it just right to hear anything. Chickens are secure, cows have new hay, kids went and let our 'outside' cats in. Pretty sure that one of the cows will calve tomorrow, so will be out braving the ice, etc. Oh well...the price we are willing to pay!

We are watching a couple of Jack's ewes. One like to pick the worst weather or a holiday or both. We think they are ma month off though.

Sorry you are ill, hope you start felling better soon, I just got over that junk it is no fun. I don't know how it effects chickens but my DH wont use prairie hay for our pigs because he says it attracts lice just thought i would give you a heads up just in case it would be the same for chickens. I have heard some ppl talking about using sand for a littler in the coup it suppose to dry up the droppings i'm thinking about trying it.

I plan to get play sand for most of my coops this Spring. It is great for feather footed birds.
I will watch for lice and mites. I use DE quite a bit and my birds love it when I put it in their bath spots.

I'm only showing two silkies--a paint pullet and a blue cockerel. Wasn't sure if I'd be well enough after our trip to China, so only entered these two. I'll be bringing several showgirls for sale, as well as regular silkies.

MJ, glad to hear you are better. Migraines are the pits

Once I passed 50, I haven't had a single migraine...used to keep Imitrex on hand.

Sure am enjoying the hatching news...its a vicarious way of satisfying the chick addiction.


Our own DGibson will be working the registration table at the Shawnee show in December.

Broke ice on all the waterers this morning and added hot water to each. Kept the bird in their pens with plenty of food available.

no calf this morning - and the one calved last week is in that zoomy stage - she does not walk, she runs full speed wherever she can go - tail up. At least she is keeping warm that way! I am just hoping that the calving cow sticks to her morning history and does not calve this afternoon in this freezing rain!

One silkie hatched. at least 4 pipped and working on it in the brinsea. I hear cheeping ((one)) from the windowless red box. Things are going well!

Robin, that's Ebony with all the Silkie babies, right? What a darling picture lol They're bigger than her and she's the mama :-D This sleet crap sucks.Took my daughter to work in Edmond because her car had a flat, fixing to run up to the high school because I don't want my 17 yr old driving in this ice. He's not happy but I'm sure his ego will recover. We're going to have to get his car home, too.
20 Silkie & Sizzle eggs went into Lockdown and 19 hatched. Love this Brinsea incubator. One was already zipped and just died, sad. These were from shipped eggs, too. I've figured out it's the freshness that matters
