Hello fellow Okies, new to this site, and learning so much. Cannot wait until this spring to get started with raising chickens. I raised chickens several years ago, but then moved into town, now that i am out of the city limits, ready to have fun raising some feathered friends. I have learned so much from this site, so glad it is here.

is it possible to splint it? Even if it fused together it would help her get around, or put her in a chick chair for bit - would keep the weight off of it

wow that is awesome how would one make one of those? is it just for broken legs or are there other uses like for a week chick?

Birds bones are notoriously hard to impossible to heal from a break, something about the light structure needed for flight. If you think the bone is actually broken I would do some research about the possibilities of it actually healing.

I already have one that had a broken bone from being stepped on by the goat. I nursed her until she could hobble, and now she's queen of the farm and takes no cluck from the rest of the flock. She will hop right up and peck the snot outta you if you don't do things her way. And she's super loveable too. Could be that I spoil her too much, but I don't think so.

I'm resigned to renaming my home to "Kelly's Crippled Chicken Preserve".

LOL!!! i have a knack for that too... as folks here know, i will give them every chance i can- glad to see others do that too when they can, its not always an option, but when i can i try- they can overcome alot -

I coundn't sleep last night and one of the thoughts rolling thru my head had me worrying about my Showgirl, Ezmeralda. Was she too cold without all the feathers like my Cochins? So at 11:00 p.m. I bundled up and put on my head flashlight and went out to check. She was fine, all tucked in with her Cochin friends. In fact her bare neck was as warm as a furnace. She is a fun bird.
