***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Not sure if we are actually going to go, but will keep an eye out for something if you would like!

Faverolles - any color - LF or Bantam, prefer LF if found...girls only. And eye candy easter eggers that are muffed and bearded - flashy feather patterns...black bearded ones even if plain feathered....girls only.

Coral I was busy wracking my brain trying to figure a way that made Sunday doable for me when Gary told me we are already commited to eating at his sister's house.
Have an extra piece of pumpkin pie for me : )

Poco seen your post pn face book looks like a. great swap .. An a nice weekend for it..

I hope a lot of people come to shop for birds. The display lot is really nice, like a park, and there are games set up for kids.

Nana, those are South American "breeds" closely related to the araucana, ameraucana, and EE. One I think also has gypsy face.

No pumpkin pie for me unless I make it w/ GF flour, and haven't found any that makes a good crust.

@Poco Pollo are you bringing tinted egg layers? I'd be interested in some girls but only if they lay blue or green. cathie sue
I'm bringing some pullets that have blue legs and tufts, but I can't guarantee they will lay blue or green eggs. There was a black Ameraucanas in the group, and I suspect he is the daddy. Momma was probably a Catalana, as the girls have her coloring and feather patterning. I don't know enough about genetics. Does momma determine the egg color, or does daddy?

Last night I went out around 5:30 to lock my chickies up and found a hawk having thanksgiving dinner having served itself up one of my buff orpingtons It had eaten the head and neck when it flew off so I had thought it was a different critter than what had killed the last one

However I left the bird where it lay and tried to set a trap that if I caught it I could relocate the hawk but this morning when I went out the wily bird had avoided that and moved the dead chicken over several feet and eaten all but the intestines so it looks like it may very well be what was getting them all along,

So, The question is...
Now what to do about the bothersome creature?, I know I'm not supposed to shoot it or is that acceptable to protect my livestock?

I took a head count and am missing like 10 chickens it's hard to tell with them all crowded in the coop like they are now but the thing has been busier than I had thought in fact it's stepped up to the number two spot still way behind the neighbors dogs, I've had chickens for years and lived here for 14 and have always had hawks and owls here and never lost any to one of them that I am aware of, I'm gonna hang out some CD's and hope that helps.

On a funny note though, A couple days ago after I shut the birds in to protect them I went in and found a young rat snake freshly dead in the floor of the coop I can only assume I locked it in on a warm day and it didn't make it through the cold night LOL I think that speaks highly of how well built the coop is when a two foot rat snake can't find a way out :)

Bill, maybe the hawk killed the bird initially and some other animal came along after that and finished eating it.

It's really nice out today so I had to get pictures :)
The 1st one is the 6wk old Silkie/Araucana mix with the double tufts, he sooo funny looking with his huge dangling tufts.

This one is going to be cool looking, too. He's a 7 wk old Cochin/Orloff mix. There's 4 of these mixes, they're legs are sooo long, they're the 4 Long Legs. I'm keeping all the mixes I hatched from my eggs.

And my Asil/Shamo is a ham and always parks himself and poses when I have the camera. He's such a good boy.

And I have 2 of these identical Gold Lace Cochin boys, they're around 6 months old and have a lot of growing to do yet, they'll be big. I really like them both but really have no reason to keep 2 so I'm going to place one of them if I can find someone who'd really want one. They've got pin feathers coming in all over their bodies so they'll be puffy ones. Anyway PM me if you might be interested in one of them. I'll just keep them both if no one wants one.
