***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Morning and Merry Christmas to all!!!

Yesterday when the ice melted it was like it rained for over an hour, which was pretty lovely... Most of my trees and bushes are standing back up like they should. Lost a few pine trees and some huge branches off several of the big trees but other then that we did okay... Getting ready to head to my daughter's place to cook and spend the day with her, which I always love doing....

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!

Well, I let my chicken flag fly today. Feeding pigeons at the West End train station in Dallas and had some people in awe about the pigeons perching on my hand so I helped one of them get pigeons on his arm. One pigeon only had stubs for legs, poor guy.

ohhhhhhh! They look like my nilla did! Got her from mj too

I know I am just now catching up. Those are beautiful birds! MJ, if you ever have any extra let me know! I love the coloring!!!
So sorry for the loss I have been reading on. So many darn pesky animals that see our chickens as a meal or just something to kill. I can't stand it! I am such a worry wart about my own chickens that I can't imagine a raccoon or hawk getting any of them. We actually had one of our adult girls go missing. Let all four out then they wandered into next door chicken neighbor's yard. Two came back. Asked him the next day and he brought us one. The other we though was gone until my daughter and I went to shut his chickens up for the night for him when he was away. There she was. Just looking at me as if to say, hey, I know you. So we left her there. He said he didn't have her with his 40 plus chickens. I can totally tell it is her but I have to keep my mouth shut and I think I will put zip ties on the legs of my other three just incase. My daughter is still so upset but I will have to take a loss to not make another neighbor enemy since our other neighbor is a complete jerk.
We did lose power but only for maybe six hours. Everyone kept warm by huddling even though their heat lamps were out. I am SO glad that it is starting to warm up. Even with the temps getting a little warmer it still bothers me. My hubby let me know that it was time to put the almost 3 week olds in the shop building. I hate to because I know it gets really cold out there. Even with a heat lamp. I don't know. Maybe I just worry too much. I may try to keep them in a couple more weeks until they have some more feathers... we will see.

Shelbydog - Your boys begin their fast tomorrow in preparation for Saturday caponizing. Are you still able to come get them on Sunday?

By the way, I love your ice photos. All our ice has melted, so now it's time to pick up all the fallen limbs.

they need to be fully feathered to deal with the cold- 3 weeks, they aren't fully feathered?

a few pics of my little unnamed silky- she is the egg betsy gave me labor day

I tried that in Boston and the locals had some strong words for me for feeding the "vermin" with wings. Jerks.

My mom has been feeding the pigeons at the train stations and she said a lady got nasty with her about it. Her response was 'they need to eat'. I told her she was encouraging them to be pests but there is enjoyment in hand feeding birds.
