***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The two Black Cochin pullets I bought from Larry Dye at Shawnee have started to lay. They are beautiful hens and are going to be nice additions to the breeding program.

What are the odds you would bring up that name when just today Mikaela said she would try to find his contact info for me. I heard he has Minorcas. Is there any chance you could send me some way to contact me, or send him a request to contact me? Pleeeeeeease?!?!?!

Hey all! Sorry it's been a while since I've participated in conversation. I have been reading along most every day. I've seen people talking about fermented feed...on that line, I had a lot of water get into a feed barrel an I didn't notice it for a bit. The scratch inside has soured. Is it safe for the chickens to eat? Will it affect the egg taste? I am trying to decide how far I'm gonna have to haul the feed to dispose of it. If I should post this somewhere else, my apologies.

Long enough to sour...not sure exactly. It was a new bag in a barrel I use for storage so I don't open it often. Lid got left open and filled with rainwater. Like I said, I saw where people were talking about fermenting feed intentionally to feed their chickens.

i'm not sure, but what i use in my feed is crumble, scratch and mix it with water and organic vinegar, how long has the scratch been sitting?

Was it soaking (thoroughly wet) in the water? Is it soaked or damp? Does it smell mouldy or soured like sour dough?

If it is soured and thoroughly wet, not damp and moldy then yes it is safe to feed.

Has anyone ordered or delt with Welp hatchery out of Iowa? They have the Giant Cochins. Just wanting to see what exsperiences you might have had with them, good or bad. Thanks

were you wanting eggs or chicks? I ordered mine from a breeder in GA - eggs- beautiful birds-
Wow, what a beautiful bird. I have not hatched chicks in several years, but plan on getting an incubator this spring. Can you PM me the breeder in GA that has these eggs for sale, would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your response.
