***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The caponized production reds have tiny, tiny combs and wattles.  They are starting to put on weight.  They hang around with the cream legbar capons.  I think the production reds will outweigh the legbars when they are mature.  The packing peanuts are a talkative bunch.  They follow me when I've got a feed bucket.  They're quick to shoulder other birds aside if they think there might be corn or potatoes in the bucket.

There's 3 I'd kept here and they're all social like that. I honestly didn't expect to like "plain old red cockerels" so well but I do. However I've been known to get attached to a rock :(
I kept 2 because they were way too tiny to go in with the other bunch and those 2 have outgrown everyone here. I just thought it was odd they don't have any combs or wattles to speak of and because of their color i do know they're males.
This Standard Cornish rooster is who cracks me up. I've only had him 3 wks and as soon as he sees me he starts calling to his girls to eat. They can already have food in their feed tub but as soon as he sees me he goes to clucking. I may only have 1/2 a jelly sandwich in my hand but he knows I'm going to give it to him if he acts really excited to see me. So much personality.

Are those capons too? When we steer something, some boy characteristics stay depending on the animal, but most physical type characteristics go away. I would assume that the wattles and big comb would be characteristics thats go away with caponizing.
It sounds like that rooster has you figured out!

Gorgeous quilt blocks @Kassaundra ! You did a great job of picking out the contrasting patterns in the stars.

For you whovians...

here is a pic of collette, my cornish girl from poco- gotta love their personality- they are funny looking, but wonderful birds

No, these weren't capons (the ones Poco has are though). I'm so anxious to learn how to caponize. They're said to keep their long sickle and hackle feathers and their pretty coloring.

I love her, Robin :)) The 2 Cornish bantams I've got have been the healthiest girls. I laugh every time I see them come running.
The day we put plywood up to block underneath the Cochins building we pulled out 114 eggs. All the birds on the place got eggs to eat that day. I couldn't believe it but it was the middle of summer and not a single egg was bad.

Beautiful blocks, Kassaundra. And I loved your sunset pics. We aren't that far from you but live down in a "hollow" so I miss the sunset unless we walk up to the top of the hill.
