***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Everybody send @shelbydog get well wishes, because she has walking pneumonia. It's not the illness that bothers her so much, but she's having to miss a chicken swap and an opportunity to add more chickens to her fowl horde on Saturday, and that really hit her hard.

Dusty, Sorry you are feeling bad. However, hard to feel bad and laugh at Kyz's comments. Don't know whether to

or

. But either way, us enablers and fellow chicken addicts understand!

My two girls and I are all getting a couple (well, I want three - two silkie girls). We are getting a Barred Rock, Austrolourpe, Brahma, Americauna, Rhode Island Red, and I really, really want two Silkies. I attempted to hatch some from eggs, but did not have any success, as I just candled them and I see nothing (it is day 5). :0( I was advised that if I want to have Silkies in the mix I need to raise them with the others because they will be so much smaller and docile.

Do you only raise Silkies?
I have a mature hen and a young rooster that free range with a large fowl flock during the day. They are dark colored, and there is plenty of ground cover. I've had no problems either with the other chickens or with predators during the day. Worst thing was nasty critters reaching in through the wire holes and grabbing wings or whatever the could and pulling them off. (this happened partly due to the silkies preferring to pile against the pen side on the ground instead of perching. The two birds I mentioned earlier somehow manage to reach the higher perches just as well as the other birds - how they do this - I have no idea. Silkie magic or something.

If you come to the auction, I can give you (maybe) a couple of fertile eggs. I have one silkie laying. She is lavender (self blue) and the rooster is a nice porcelain (or self blue cream). Today's egg was the last one into the incubator. But if we get one Friday and Saturday - you can have those. Her eggs are fertile. I know that two is a really small number, but if you want them, they are yours.

LOL, actually I don't feel that bad other than the sinusitis I have too. The coughing fits suck but this is like a walk in the park compared to the bacterial respiratory infection I had about 2 years ago...now I was miserable with that. I feel fine to work but doctor said I needed to stay home and let the antibiotics get to work.

For my fellow corgi lovers

I want to get one of my artist friends to paint me a 'The Cluckin' Corgi Farm' sign with some corgi and hen silhouettes for my coop.
