Ladies, I have a problem....

I just went to feed and collect morning eggs and found........goo......

One of the eggs was covered in egg, with no shell remaining! This is the first time, could it be a fluke or do I for sure have an egg-eater? I have 24 layers so I have no way of knowing who it is! ARGH! I put out my faux eggs, hopefully this is an isolated event.......

My very first chickie hatched out of an egg laid by my own chickens! Meet Caramel Junior! Caramel the gold sexlink egglaying machine is her mother, and Floyd the somethingsomething EE roo is her father. Wow, it's pretty cool to hatch eggs, but it's even more amazing when they're from your own flock.

King's Feed in Newalla is now selling Non-GMO chicken feed. They have chick starter and layer and scratch. It is from a maker in Texas.

It was me. If you plan on selling it let me know. I might buy it off you. Might as well since I need to stop thinking I will be done with hatching after this batch. Ha! Im in denial.



Robin: Fermented feed is looking good and on its way! I'm starting to think that one of my Cochins is a cockerel. Possibly both. Now I'm sad because I just LOVE them but I don't have room for anymore cockerels.

Still doctoring that one cochins feet. The tips are just as bad as yours but the bottoms aren't . He/she lost a toe tip with nail yesterday. Will be losing probably two or three more. Geeze I wish I could just bop the person who let them get like this then sell them! I'm still so irritated that there are people like that!

Rinda: I candled all 5 eggs I bought from you and at day 6 they all have beautiful veins! So excited!!!

Coral, I am so sorry for the loss. My prayers go out to you.

I can't go back to get the forum name because my computer is acting super slow and I'm impatient this morning, but for culling the roo... I would have had done the same. I wont tolerate an aggressive roo. Especially with my kids. I remember one attacking me when I was a little girl. Wish they would have put that mean ol' thing in a stew pot!

It's another BEAUTIFUL day!!! So thankful before we go to cold weather again tomorrow.

I just got some great black copper marans eggs last night - but going to set them today - I CAN NOT tell which end is the pointy end....I tried candling but can only find the air cell on a few of them. On the marans thread, they suggested 'feeling' for the pointy end, and then if all else fails, a quick float.

I really don't want to damage the bloom...

Any thoughts or advice?

It was someone else. I'm bumming space off Rinda today. I might take you up on it if I miss my deadline in getting the eggs to her in time.

Had a weird thing happen to us too.... dh and I standing around in the chicken yard - then all of a sudden there was a swarm of birds behind me eating something..... I looked, it was egg. There was no shell anywhere - and we were there....so did someone just go and poop an egg poo? Weird! IF there had been an egg - we would have noticed it.
