***OKIES in the BYC III ***

There was a long list of potential breeds on the tank from Atwoods so I'm not sure. I don't have any experience with any of the breeds so I thought that it would be a good way to see what happens haha

Thank you thank you

I got them from Atwoods and they didnt have the specific breeds listed, I just picked based on the colorings my 2 year old liked.

It's hard to tell from those pics, and there are many kinds that look similar as chicks. Some chicks you can tell by down patterning, or features like feathered legs, leg color, puffy head feathers, puffy cheeks, number of toes, stuff like that.

Brrrr 7 degrees out this morning, hope everyone stayed and stays warm.

Yes it is cold. Not even supposed to break freezing today, bummer. Left the heat lamp on over the chicken waterer last night. It worked out, as they have water this morning. Don't put a light under the waterer though. The bulb will explode if the chickens splash water on it. Glad I was present when that happened.

Thank goodness I was home yesterday, my brooding light went out

. Thankfully my son caught it on one of his billion trips to check on the chickies!!! My husband was super quick to get the other light, and all is well. I am so ready for this weather to be GONE!
Hope everyone is tucked away warm, and that no one had any losses. This has been a hard year for chickens.

Great photos of your rump less rooster.

Went to take hot water to top off the water tubs this morning and found my older Cochin hen Joy, laying in the nest box. I usually pet her head and when I did, discovered she was gone. The two eggs under her were still warm. She was always one of the first to run to me for treats and clucked all the way alerting others I was coming. She will be missed.

It has warmed up to 8 degrees now with windchill in the negative numbers. Hopefully all the pregnant momma cows will keep their legs crossed until tomorrow.

Bardies.....on the Oxine, I use a 1/2 tsp per gallon of water for drinking water. For disinfecting eggs before hatching, I use a 5% solution.

Thanks for the info re oxine!

44 eggs in the hatcher are ready to hatching later today into tomorrow. Hope for good numbers.
Was up and down several times last night checking the temps in all the incubators in the back room because the back room temps was cold. Had to tweak one close to a window several times but the other two held.
