***OKIES in the BYC III ***

NanK, sorry about Joy.

I'm sorry, Nana :-( Good old hen friends are hard to lose
This weather is just crap. I've been pouring hot hot water over scratch & pellets along with heating fermented stuff up in the microwave. It makes me feel better to give them something steaming when it's so cold. These new Seramas loooove the fermented feed. Channing never has liked it, when his little Henlet has her face shoved in a bowl of it he stares at her like she's eating her own poo :gig
I think the news said it was going to be close to 70 Friday?! What on earth is going on???

Take a look at the chick below. I wish that the color was better in the picture. It has the chipmunk stripes with a pale grayish down. Kind of like in lavender or blue chicks. Then around the face some yellow. This chick came out of a blue egg but from my layer flock so will be a barnyard mix. I hatch several of these a year because I enjoy all the colors. As a chick this one is a beauty.

Keep us posted on how this one feathers out.

Only got half the water containers thawed before my sinuses rebelled. I fixed lunch, dried off, took some cold medicine, and now I'm headed back out. It's 16 degrees and sunny, so maybe I won't need to wear my ski mask this time. Just kidding. That's not really me. I was trying to find a smiley with a ski mask on but Google gave me this instead.

@nanakat I'm so sorry to hear about Joy. Will you be hatching her two eggs? A little Joy is better than no Joy at all.

@ksane when you start breeding this year please put me on the list for tailless and tufted. I'm not asking for freebies, but I know you have gorgeous, healthy birds.

Up until this spring we have only had barnyard mix chickens and they are all free range. So you never know what kind of chicks we would get!

This year I have new pens built and I can't wait to have some gorgeous purebred chickies!

Does everyone here mostly free range? Or do you have your chickens separated by breed?
