What duck breeds did they have at TSC? The Muskogee store only had tufted, and there was no breed description other than "straight-run ducklings."

You'll get them free and you'll like it![]()
I free range and all my breeds will be mingling with each other. I just have to wait for my other breeds to get big enough to mingle with the big birds.Up until this spring we have only had barnyard mix chickens and they are all free range. So you never know what kind of chicks we would get!
This year I have new pens built and I can't wait to have some gorgeous purebred chickies!
Does everyone here mostly free range? Or do you have your chickens separated by breed?
I know! I saw a deal on facebook where it said only in Oklahoma will it be all four seasons in one week.I'm sorry, Nana :-( Good old hen friends are hard to lose
This weather is just crap. I've been pouring hot hot water over scratch & pellets along with heating fermented stuff up in the microwave. It makes me feel better to give them something steaming when it's so cold. These new Seramas loooove the fermented feed. Channing never has liked it, when his little Henlet has her face shoved in a bowl of it he stares at her like she's eating her own poo![]()
I think the news said it was going to be close to 70 Friday?! What on earth is going on???
WELCOME!!!! I saw the picture and someone posted maybe one being a buff orpington. I just happened to get two today so I can tell you some characteristics. They are a darker yellow. Their feet are pink and if you look when their wing feathers come in they are a light tan/brown color. Don't know if that helps but I was looking at some chicks in the same bin and the feed store owner said that the other breed had a different color of feet than this breed. You might go back and ask what breed. So I am new to the whole backyard chickens scene. I currently have 3 pulleys in a brooder in my kitchen haha. Is there any way to tell what breed they are by their chick colorings? Oh yeah I am in the Enid area
Sorry about Joy. It always hurts to lose one.Great photos of your rump less rooster.
Went to take hot water to top off the water tubs this morning and found my older Cochin hen Joy, laying in the nest box. I usually pet her head and when I did, discovered she was gone. The two eggs under her were still warm. She was always one of the first to run to me for treats and clucked all the way alerting others I was coming. She will be missed.
It has warmed up to 8 degrees now with windchill in the negative numbers. Hopefully all the pregnant momma cows will keep their legs crossed until tomorrow.
Bardies.....on the Oxine, I use a 1/2 tsp per gallon of water for drinking water. For disinfecting eggs before hatching, I use a 5% solution.
I've always been free ranging, but buy purebred hens and roosters. I've hatched a barnyard mix and keep the pullets, so this year I'm going to put some in breeding pens for awhile. I do get lucky and get some purebreds hatched because I keep them in different coops and the roosters are pretty watchful over their girls, although sometimes they get sneaky if one comes in the chickenyard and he just happens to be there. Mine fly over about everything so I'll have to , er, hubby will have to build something with tops on them.Up until this spring we have only had barnyard mix chickens and they are all free range. It was a straight run mix with no listed breeds so I did quick google searches to make best guesses at what I was selecting. I think I got a blue Swedish, a black Swedish, a khaki Campbell, and a black runner. They had Pekins and what I think were rouens in the bin too.
I don't know what Tractor supply sells but Atwoods gets everything from Ideal Poultry' They sure are cute. I'm used to the scovys, and they are always light when they are born so these are really different.
too funny True on the imported- so many are clueless!!LOL! i avoid feed stores this time of year, i have no resistance at all! So hubby does the feed
anyone know if a chick can hatch with a detached aircell? this lone cochin does still have a detatched cell, the only one to show development
