Set 42 eggs tonight. ...now running three full...with a hatcher on the side....trying to catch up with hatch rates from last year. Wish the weather would cooperate....
At 7:30 p went out to fasten the fences on the fronts of the coop buildings and shut all the pop doors...three coyotes were just south of the fence behind the barn. Gracie, 10 year old Aussie Shep, was with me and she was behind the barn when the male started howling and calling her out. The females chimed in. Gracie came when I called her and the coyotes were more insistent. Had nothing to beat them off if they kept approaching so I screamed like a banshee and clapped my hands really loud. They quit howling and left...whew! I finished locking up the birds and checked the hen with the new babies...all is well in feather land.
Glad you, Gracie and the chicks were not harmed.
