***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Our day started with a prolapsed cow...before delivery! Had to bring the entire herd up from the back in order to get her from the back pasture. She and another cow that is a first-timer are settled in the lot by the barn.

Understand the being able to sleep....But tell you what - was glad that THIS time I had cried wolf. Not totally convinced that they had fully bonded...but a day or so in the same pen with no other nosy cows around couldn't have hurt. Today, I watched her give baby a bath. Totally worth it! How is your prolapse/her calf doing?

Great outcome! She hasn't had her calf yet...more swelling and some discharge so the boys took her to the vet who is keeping her overnight. He was able to push back the prolapse and check the calf and her milk flow. He will give her a shot this afternoon to start her labor. Should have calf Sat morning.

The calf picture is adorable!

Kyz, after the 1st couple years of chicken owning I got a better feel of who was going to make it and who wasn't. I've never culled any though, my husband does it for me. And the cold honest truth is not ALL of my birds are my favorites. I've had far too many and lost far too many favorite pets of all species. Although I'd max out my credit cards to keep a certain little Serama buddy alive (and well).

Lorie-I love Frizzles! i've got a white Frizzle Bantam Cochin and a Frizzle Silkie, they're so comical! It's entirely possible that's what you have, feed stores have them all the time.

I'm sorry you lost him- it just rips me apart when you do everything you can and still lose them

I was looking at my new chicks from Atwoods and I think I have a frizzle Cochin. The tips of the feather wings curl up and look frayed a bit.

Great to be here, and raising chickens again. We had a few in Louisville, KY and again in Vero Beach, FL. I really missed them greeting me when I got home form work as the pen was next to the garage.

Yeah, we are up in the most NE part of OK, 'pert near Missouri. Just 4 miles to a boat ramp and the Grand Lake of the Cherokee.

Question, I hatched chicks yesterday (day 21), there are still 4 egga left, how many days to you wait before counting your losses on them. Thanks

I've had them hatch out as late as 25 days, but that is unusual.

Tony, that's what I use as brooders! Sooooooo easy to clean and adapt.

I can't wait to see all you great peeps tomorrow at the Coweta auction! I'll be taking my grandbabies, so if there's something you absolutely have to have be sure to let us know so we won't bid against you.

Just a heads up though... if my granddaughter wants something specific I'm going to make her bid on it so you'll be the one bidding against the six year old girl with tears in her eyes!
