Hi All,
I've got a small backyard flock of mixed breeds, but just recently purchased hatching eggs from lonnyandrinda. I can't wait to get them in the incubator! Five Jubilee Orpington (from another breeder) are still on their way via USPS, so I have to wait another day. AARGH. I've also got WAY too many chicks in the brooder right now. I apparently can't say no.
I just wanted to say hello and see how they BYC posting thing works!
Rhonda
Welcome to the "Okies in the BYC"
We are a group of chicken loving people from Oklahoma and a few states beyond. Please jump in and tell us about yourself and your birds.
The BYC Staff asks that everyone take a moment to read the rules here
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/misc.php?action=rules, particularly the part about flaming, trolling, teasing and fighting.
Remember that all threads are subject to these rules.
I've put a lot of thought into this and I'm unfortunately going to have to let Floyd go. I just hate it. Hes SUCH a good roo for the girls, but he's not going to tolerate any other roos in the yard, and eventually I'm going to have to add Einstein, the Cream Legbar to the mix, along with Orlando, the SFH and Lord Dingwald, the Dorking.
Anybody interested in an EE roo who is gentle and good to the girls and isn't human-aggressive at all? If not, he'll have to go to freezer camp.
We are wanting to start raising chickens for eggs and possibly meat later on. We are very new to this. I have been looking at different hen houses on line. Since we live in S.W. Oklahoma I was wanting to know what type of chickens do well with our weather and where would be the best place to buy the chickens? What is a good number to start out with? I was thinking maybe 4 but would that be two many for a starter coop? I have tons of questions but I guess this is enough for now. Thanks!
