my sprouts keep trying to mold on me any suggestions on what i need to do?

Got 5 baby Serama chicks yesterday, they are the cutest little things. Plus I have Serama eggs in the bator due to hatch 4/12... I guess I am hooked on Serama's. LOL

Robin- I was going to tell you since yesterday was so nice out the Silkies all got to go outside and play, they absolutely loved it...

Might need to do your initial seed soak with a tad of bleach in the water. That's what the fodder folks do.

When I did mine, I just took the tray and put it over the sink and rinsed them off daily, no mold issues.

Are you growing to fodder stage or feeding out sprouts?

have not decided just experimenting right now, what is the difference? how long you let it grow?

Yes mostly, sprouts are generally fed out at about 4 days, fodder to 7-8day range.

I think the chickens get as much benefit from the sprouts as the actual fodder, maybe even more depending on which site you believe. Sprouts are easiest in a sprouting bag, you can make it from burlap or just use thrift store pillow cases, or make bags from thrift store or old worn out sheets. Just soak over night in the bag, you don't need to rinse daily since the bag keeps things moist, then just invert the bag over a stick in the ground in the run and chickens can eat at their leisure all day, they will clean the bag off for you. I have posted a video on the sprouting thread it is the easiest way I have ever found.

I can't copy and paste on byc but the thread is anyone raise sprouts ......

page 40 has still images of my bags and 44 has a link to the video
