***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I should have some for POOPS then.
I have 19 chicks of various ages, 2 weeks to 6 weeks, now. I am bringing some to Newcastle auction Saturday; a few young pairs- Splash roo and Blue pullet, Blue roo and Splash pullet and maybe a Blue pair.
Marans are easy to sex at 5 weeks.  At 4 weeks no difference in male and female but almost overnight the boys' combs grow, plus the boys and girls start acting distinctly different. The boys stick their heads up on guard, stink eye already.

Lovelovelove! Save me a pullet if you have one available! I have a feeling you would have no trouble finding buyers for them at POOPS.

@hotculture. Thanks for the offer for my husband's travel trailer. I found him a place to park it in Henryetta I think. That was very generous of you. Thank you. I was surprised how gorgeous the countryside over there is but I didn't see a single chicken :(
I'm sure they were hiding or something.

I have chickens in Henryetta, my FIL, and a neighbor all do in the town. Henryetta has no ordinance against it, not even roos.

Help! I've got a sick hen. I went to check on her bc she didn't get off the roost. She fluttered out of the coop and I noticed one of her eyes was shut. Almost like it is more matted rather than swollen. She allowed me to pick her up, which she has never done before. I put her in a separate cage and she just laid on her side with her feet curled up. She's standing up now but I'm keeping her isolated. She seemed fine yesterday. We've only had these chickens for about 10 days. I'm going to put a warm compress over her eye and see if opens up. I would appreciate any ideas.

Also, my rooster sounds like it might be sneezing or something that sounds like that. Do they get colds?

Treat asap with tylan shots. If she is ill enough to just lie on her side she is seriously sick you need to do injections. I'd give her 1/2 cc in the thigh or breast twice a day for a few days then once a day. 5-7 day total. Watch the rest of the flock very closely they are likely also carriers or exposed. If you see anyone else with ANY signs I eouldtrest the whole flock with a water soluble antibiotic like tetracycline.

Where do I get tylan? What do you think she is sick with? She is standing now but still not moving much.and she is isolated. A warm compress got her eye unstuck. Like I said, my rooster sounds like he is sneezing and maybe a little congested.
Thank you so much for the info.

You can get Tylan at Tractor Supply or about any feed store. I agree with Rinda's information. My vet suggested I give Tylan orally instead of through injection, and was very vehement about it being the preferred method of dosage, so you can also go that route if you're uncomfortable injecting it. Different vets will suggest different routes, so pick the one that works best for you. You might want to start giving her some mashed up egg for additional protein and apple cider vinegar (ACV) in their water. Once you complete the antibiotic treatment you'll want to treat with a probiotic like plain yogurt or the probiotic powder they sell at TSC, and increase their vitamins for a couple of weeks. It could be just an infection, chickens express sinus infections through their eyes, or it could be something more serious. Check your rooster for snot from his nares and gunky eyes too. Also be sure to check their poop. What is the consistency and color? The standard suggestion is whenever you get new birds always, ALWAYS isolate from the rest of the flock for a minimum of two weeks (I do a month), and give a round of antibiotics and broad-spectrum dewormer.
