***OKIES in the BYC III ***

@ksane, Your roo is so funny! I was hosing the spideys off of the chairs for the storm shelter and droplets of the water sprayed onto this 'window' that is sheltering them from the wind. He called the girls over for treats!

Silly boy, he needs some real treats to entice those hens. So far, even though I have seen no dancing, he seems to be the perfect gentleman.

@mjgigax, So far there has been only one egg - and it is a bit wrinkled on the end. Don't think I'd hatch it if I had others. However, if we don't get enough by Saturday - I'll just keep collecting. We are close enough that we can meet up at some point.

Hope everyone is battened down!

ok, so i confused now one of our bantam feather footed chicks seems to have silked feathers i was thinking it was a cochin but now i'n not sure what it is. it only has 4 toes but the leg are kind of blue(?)

How old is that baby? It's huge! Could it be a white Langshan? Or a white Brahma.

Oh! I finally got time to spend doing non-necessary things and got the irises from Kassaundra planted! Kass, I remember my grandmother had one long row of irises that bloomed along a fence full of honeysuckle, so I planted a honeysuckle bush in the middle of them. Thank you!

He's your roo now lol! Poor boy lived a way sheltered life here on a heated deck all winter. It probably hasn't quite hit him yet that he's got real live girls in with him. I'm glad you have him, he's got to be happier there. I told you-he's the biggest Silkie I've ever seen! There used to be a lady that sold what she called "standard sized Silkies". Maybe you can develop LF Showgirls :-D

Miohippus, that white chick looks like a Cochin to me. Their feathers are like puffy silk, soooo soft. I love how they feel. As babies they do look big but it's all feathers.

I have 2 exactly like yours and was wondering the same thing. I got mine at Atwoods in Chickasha and they order from Ideal. I have been trying to get on the Ideal website to see what bantams they offer but the sight is down. I wonder what breed we got?? We're yours from Atwoods too?
nope, got mine at tractor supply they said they got them from privett hatchery, that is weard!!!

not sure it was on sale because they said it was an older chick i think they said it was two weeks old when i got it so i should be close to 3 now. I was in the bantam tub.

i have some adult cochins and the feathers are not the same these on the chick seem like the feathers my silkies have, not barred and really fluffy i will try to get a better photo tomorrow.

Where do I get tylan? What do you think she is sick with? She is standing now but still not moving much.and she is isolated. A warm compress got her eye unstuck. Like I said, my rooster sounds like he is sneezing and maybe a little congested.
Thank you so much for the info.
Atwoods, Tractor Supply or any well stocked feed store

Sorry, just now saw your post! Nope, I don't let the kids handle them! My oldest is just 5 so they aren't allowed to touch them. The only symptems was the bloody stool and not just a little blood but some that was pure blood. After putting the amprol in their water all the bleeding has stopped. I did loose two more but it was the same night they were started on the amprol so was probly just too late for them. I really don't know what else it could have been with those symptoms but it should have taken longer to start killing them since it takes about 5 days for cocci to reproduce enough to harm the birds. Is there any other disease that has the same symptoms?
It is a good idea to not allow your young kids to handle the chickens if they or the chickens are sick but it is not a bad idea to allow the kids to handle the chickens otherwise. That is making sure they wash their hands after handling the birds.

Looks like maybe a frizzle cochin... Nice foot feathering!!!

So I have set 25 bourbon red turkey eggs in the styrofoam hen... It has been 3 years since I have used my incubator but it is getting a bit despite with all the turkey eggs I have found.
fl.gif
So in 3 1/2 weeks they go into lock down, at which time I will candle them all then..
Turkey girls are starting to lay really well, with 7-10 eggs out of 14 hens a day.. A couple of them are laying ginormous eggs!!!
Hope everyone is having a great week! We are almost to the weekend!!!

This is obviously a whole different class of chicken, the ultra-rare giant bantam.
