***OKIES in the BYC III ***

In the event anyone is interested in a few OEGB or Rosecomb chicks I have some ranging from 1-3 weeks that hatched the wrong color for what I am wanting to keep. The combinations can include Black Tailed Buff, Buff Columbian, Silver quill and red quill They will make for nice birds just not something I am going to raise out.
Carl, those colors sound intriguing....PM me with details....I'll take some.
Here is a better pic of him crowing.
Ksane....Les and Teva got a gorgeous Malay cock...and he does look happy. Had a lovely conversation with hotcurltr this afternoon....it's amazing how talk always turns to chickens. Lol. We spent time this afternoon planting tomato plant for my MIL. Ended up setting out 90 plants in many varieties. Some of the plants had blooms and some had marble sized tomatoes already.

This is why I wont go and eat my toast or bagels on the back porch in the morning anymore.

That is my daughter but this morning I was eating my toast (third time this has happened) and I went to push her down. She jumped on my arm like it was a perch and started to eat my toast that was in my fingers (my coffee cup was in my other hand). I need to teach my chickens manners. Ha! It doesn't show but my entire flock was around her. We found out that our LF cochin jumps like a bowling ball with legs.

SO much to catch up on! Hope everyone is doing well! Not much going on here. Bantam cochin, Kate, went broody (her first time). Her beau, Leopold, decided to try to cover my young marans pullets. They wanted NOTHING to do with him. Scared of him actually. He covered them once but then instantly he became their friend and they now follow him around.

I think it's because he talks sweetly to them and gives them treats. Got my first egg from one of our lav orp girls a day ago.

Other than that nothing new in the chicken world. I tried to keep up with all the posts but it has been so long since I was able to come say "hi" that they piled up. Hubby had surgery on his broken ankle/foot/leg and is doing really good. He is trying to help around the yard when I'm out trying to clean it. Infact... I posted this on FB but thought I would post on here....

Here is the dorking I thought we were going to sell. I wont get into the details of the drama but I won the argument.

So here Mary Ann is helping me out with my cleaning up the yard. Our hens are SO nosey!!! I really need another really soft hearted LF Cochin for my Bock Bock (big blue cochin). She just seems so lonely sometimes and I think she needs someone more like her. Especially at bed time. She goes and cuddles with the bantam cochins at night in the bantam hut instead of going to the big girl coop. Bless her heart.

The young birds range in age from 1 week to 3 weeks and are from the Columbian OEGB improvements and Columbian Rosecomb projects. Much like the little Buff Columbians from last year and the year before. They should be super sweet little birds and a real pleasure to have but I am very limited on space at the moment. If you are interested in them just call I will be here all weekend dealing with boy's trucks and hopefully get the lawn mowed while I am at it.
I figured for sure someone would want a few bantam chicks for easter. They are free just to get them off my feed bill and to a home where someone can enjoy them.

No way for a raccoon to reach in--the bottom 28" of all my pens are sheathed in stucco reinforcement panels. They are expanded metal with very, very small openings and are also quite sharp.

Off topic- Betsy would you mind PMing me a way for others to contact you? I've had a lot of people asking me about Silkies lately and you are the only one I know of who regularly has them. I tell them to come on BYC and find you but an e-mail or phone number would be easier for me to pass on. :)

We didn't have water when I got home from work yesterday. I called the emergency number this morning and was told there are five miles of water lines to check, and so far the leak/break has not been found. Looks like I'll need to drive into town to buy some water. Grand babies were upset last night because we couldn't have bath time. Both girls are extremely disappointed in me right now. We tried the tub faucet this morning, and the slightest wisp of air shooshed out.

All the chickens still have half-full water containers. The barn cats dumped their water last night, so they will have to share with the free-range capons.

Sure would like to wash water dishes and refill them from the tap rather than from gallon store-bought jugs. A shower before the Coweta sale would be nice too.
