***OKIES in the BYC III ***

No, not that I have noticed, neither do his hatch mates. The comb is growing, but not as much as it looks, for the first 1-2 weeks in was bent over flat against his head, it took almost 2 weeks for it to plump up and stand up.
I am wondering if his comb will be like the tail thing. He tail looks tiny, but do we really know? and, his comb looks big...but on regular birds it would be hiding in a head full of feathers. Rudy is just plain COOL!

Thanks to Kass for making him and many many thanks for sharing and letting us watch him grow!

Heya Kass, it just occurred to me that Rudy might be prone to ear problems, since he doesn't have anything covering his ears to keep dust out. He could get anything lodged in there in a brisk wind.

Good morning everyone! I had the last bantam cochin hatch day before yesterday evening. It was super shrunk wrapped so I had to help the little thing out a bit. (LITTLE GIANTS SUCK!!!). I actually had it and another that needed assistance but the second I think I got to just a little too late and it died last night. This one was on the edge of death. It wasn't moving, its head would droop if I picked it up, eyes remained closed. It wouldn't peep and would only move it's little legs. It felt cool to the touch even though it was in the warm bator. I figured I could try one last resort to see if I could get it to come around. Even if it was a long shot. So I gave it a little Poly Vi Sol with just a little water and sugar. I gave it maybe two drops. That's all I could get it to take without aspirating. Put it back in the bator and I went to bed thinking I would have a dead chick in the morning. (I even had the baggie sitting out so I could put it away before the kids saw it.) When I looked in the bator this morning IT WAS UP AND STUMBLING AND PEEPING!!!! I LOVE THOSE VITAMINS!!!!

Not much going on here. Got waaaaayyyyy too many chicks. 17 here, 17 there, another 17, 13 over there... 6 eggs under a broody... then 15 eggs in the bator.

I'm actually running out of room! So I have put a stop to buying anymore. Unless they are the same age of one of the groups.

A very large number of these will be going as soon as they are big enough. I just have to let them grow to sex them then pick out what we want. We picked up 17 LF Cochins yesterday so we will keep 2. I was only going to get a few but my hubby was like "Why not get all of them since they are so cheap?" And I thought that I was bad!

True5 how do you pick just a couple to keep? That was my intention too but I am attached to them now. I desperately need to go through them and decide who I am going to sell but I am hoping with POOPS coming up I can make myself take some to swap or sell. It is just so had for me. Hopefully it will get easier

Quote: adults can, but bloody poop isn't a symptom, lethargy is, so i am just guessing- she started eating yesterday, so i am hoping to pull her through

i don't know if it does, but i sure need to downsize, and poops is a good place to do that- i will be bringing some bantam cochins- they'll be 4 months by then, and if i can look over the others and decide who goes- problem is they all have their stories, the older ones i'll keep, its hard to decide

I do have chicks besides Rudy, here are a few pics of the 6 weekers

This is the boy w/ the rock star eye liner as a chick, I think he will be unconventional looking

This is EB (eager beaver, first to hatch) Thought boy from hatch still think boy

Had 3 red laying hens, out of 60 eggs to set I get one red chick and it is a boy!

This one I've been convinced from hatch is a girl, the white splotches are giving me pause, but for now I'm still thinking girl

Still thinking girl on this one, she is EB's twin except for the red eye liner

I think this boy is going to be striking looking, birchen w/ top knot and fm skin
