***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hey Okies!
I'm in Southeast OKC if anyone is near me. I hope everyone's coops are battened down, the wind is coming! :)
Welcome! I like your avitar. Our poor Husky mix doesn't get to sleep in his bed, the one in the living room, much; one of our cats thinks it belongs to him. The dog's bedroom bed is where the dog draws the line for putting up with bossy cats.

Several BYC Okies are improved Californians. We still have family in San Diego, Poway, Temecula, and Lemon Grove. We miss the beautiful weather, but we're glad to be away from the high cost of living and the oneupmanship that pervades a fast culture. There are many knowledgable people on this thread. Don't hesitate to ask if you need information. And mark your calendar for June 14th. We (Okie Chicken Fans) are having a big gathering in Tahlequah to swap, sell, trade poultry, bunnies, hatching eggs, etc. There will be a pot luck lunch, and we'll also have games for the kids. There's a link to the planning thread in my signature line. Hope you can join us. It's a great way to meet friendly chicken enthusiasts.
I have lived in San Diego twice - once with each Husband!

My first husband, whom I met in Graduate School in Tennessee, was from Poway. I'm from Michigan.

I met and married my second husband in Japan. I was there teaching and he was in the Navy. We were next stationed in San Diego and got Navy housing on Coronado Island. That was a real treat. I could hear waves and see dolphins while I washed dishes.
Next we were stationed here in Oklahoma. That was 10 years ago. DH retired 4 years ago and we are still here with chickens :)

I guess take me off the list for the cochin want. We got 17 LF cochin chicks today. :D

The air sacks are created by the hen so no need to let fresh eggs rest. Shipped eggs should be treated differently.

Oh my gosh! I saw that too! I got so excited until I googled where she was and DARN IT! She's waaaaaaaayyyyy down south. I know exactly how you feel. :barnie  I want some SO BAD! Such pretty little chickies......:jumpy

I saw you gals talking about crocheting and knitting... I actually got done with a project! I picked up my crochet needle for the first time in forever (I normally knit) and made a cute little chicken. My first stuffed crochet animal. Ever. Turned out pretty cute! I had to design my own tail and waddles for it but it really is cute enough that my daughter demanded I make her one with the fuzzy fun yarn to make a silkie. I have started. So far I want to bang my head on the wall. That fuzzy stuff makes it hard to see! I will have to post a pic if it turns out and then find a link to the pattern if anyone likes it.

Can't wait to see a picture! The best handywork plushes are always crochet!

My first husband was in the navy, and he was stationed on Coronado Island. We lived in downtown San Diego, on A street, at that time. Three years after we split, I met my forever husband at work in Rancho Bernardo. We had a house in Poway until we moved to Mississippi for a better job opportunity for DH. We're been here in OK since 2000, and we will retire here.

Once, DH and I were snorkeling at the Cove at La Jolla Shores. We had wet suits on for buoyancy, so we were bobbing along at the surface without effort. I heard a blast of air, lifted my mask to the surface and looked north. There was a pod of bottle- nosed dolphins approaching. I treaded water to show them I was friendly. DH saw the fins and turned immediately towards the cliffs. He swam like a crazy man, knowing that he would be eaten long before he reached the unclimbable cliffs. Later, when I assured him that anyone could have made that mistake, I realized that he and the ocean were incompatible. I've never seen a shark play in the breakers, and the attitude of the dolphins in the water was one of interest, not aggression. I didn't ask him to snorkel with me after that.
