I'm going to try that one. Thanks! I've also been told that if you skip a year planting squash they will go away. I never seem to be able to NOT plant squash though to find out. Sigh.

I know for a fact that will not work. So you don't have to worry about not planting squash for a year.

I also have planted trombocini a vining type of zucchini that is suppose to not attract or resist squash bugs. Anyone try it before?

Just read an article about putting cuke slices on a pie tin, it said it makes a scent that humans can't smell but bugs don't like and it will drive them out of the garden. Don't think I believe it, but it sure won't hurt to try it on squash bugs.

Hi! I'm from around the Green Country area, in between Owasso and Claremore. I have 3 Barred Rock hens, 1 Rhode Island Red hen, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Amber Star Hybrid hens, 2 Buff Brahma Bantam hens, and a Buff Brahma bantam rooster. I also garden and quilt. Loving the BYC so far!

If you place boards around the squash, the shield bugs are supposed to gather underneath and you can catch them there in the early mornings. I think I'm going to try a couple of different approaches this year... the wet towel, the boards, boards with sticky tape, and my lye soap in water.

I noticed a huge dropoff in the number of the bugs using the lye soap in water.

@erinszoo be sure to destroy all the little egg colonies when you see them. Always check under the leaves of your squash plants. Eggs look like tiny amber colored beads in geometric patterns. You can take your finger and just rub over them to squish them.

Welcome to BYC! I'm out by Skiatook Lake.

Those babies are beautiful! I may need some buff brahma bantams now! So I went to Atwoods a few days ago to get some cochin bantams because I gave up finding anymore breeders in the area. I ended up with 3 blue or splash (wishful thinking maybe), 2 black and 1 mille fluer d'uccle (which wasnt a partridge cochin LOL) Anyway I looked today and 1 of my little blacks is starting to frizzle! And it's the one I'm most certain might be a pullet!!! I'm so excited because I always wanted a frizzle. Fingers crossed my chick luck is changing! Between the cocci experience and my collection of cockerels I was starting to lose hope! Loving this weather by the way!

I know you are young but I think horrible is not the right description for that type of art. It's just not age appropriate for your eyes. When you are an adult you may come to appreciate that type of art. You may not like the subject but it doesn't mean it wasn't done with great technique. I have artist friends and have a small collection of artwork from tattoo artists. Some of their work can be graphic but it's the technique I admire.

I have a painting that is somewhat graphic in an abstract way and I always get a kick out of what others see in it. It's all about perception with this piece.
