***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I should've been more clear. It's not an injection. You put the Frontline drops under their feathers on the back of their necks. With the spray you spray under each wing, their stomach and a spot on their neck, it's not exact. I haven't been happy with Ivomec but i know lots of people here use it. There's something you can get at feed stores called Ivomec Eprinex that works awesome, it's a pour-on wormer for cattle. It's different than Ivomec though. I gave away more than I used and even with all my birds that stuff lasted like 18 months.
I think I'll get that next as a matter of fact.

When you say frontline drops are you talking about the stuff you use on cats and dogs? If so I think the spray sounds way more economical!

Does anyone have any luck with DE? If I see mites or lice on a chicken (always the new ones) I put sevindust on them-then and only then. After that I just try to DE all my birds every 2 weeks. It seems to work for me but maybe it's my imagination.

While we're on the subject of pests I'm wondering what people do about flies? We have fly strips hanging up and so far I've caught pecan flowers, a sparrow (we used sand to free the poor guy) and some fruit flies. Fail. Id love other ideas!

We've used those tacky scented car air fresheners, vanilla scented in our chicken coop and rabbit pens to repel flies. And the bags you put water in. Both work but nothing is 100% against flies. I have a big bag of ag lime I'm going to try in my goat yards. All this rain and muck has made the fly population soar. I hate them.

We've decided to get out of the turkey and rabbit business. Reduce the feed bill some at least. Neither are paying for themselves like the chickens and goats have. Plus the turkeys are noisy and keep flying up on the neighbors shed. They really need more land than we have or can afford. Plus it will ease how many animals we have to care for. Hate to do it after we spent so much time building up our turkey flock, but somethings got to give.

@hotcurltr , how do you feel about the birchen color pattern

I love the birchen. I'm keeping one of the cochin /wyandotte crosses I got from NanaKat as a roo. He's huge and gorgeous. and a January hatch. I'll have to take a picture. Sorry, I am so far behind. I haven't had time to get on very much and can't even remember where I left off weeks ago. I did just finish from your post to the end for today so that's a help. I get notifications when my name is mentioned, so that's how I knew where to go. Thanks. I never really knew how your massacre happened. I just always assumed it was a bunch of neighbor dogs. How do you know it was your dog? Dumb question if she was all bloodied up.

I'm sure there's not. Chances are you got more of the active ingredient in your system from bathing them with it than you'd get from eating eggs that came from them.
Can't help but mention though.....it's a whole lot easier to give them 4 or 5 squirts with Frontline Spray than it is to bathe and dip them all

Mitzi, I know there is suppose to be a generic type of Frontline they sale at Wal-Mart, I googled it and looks to be called PetArmour, would this work just as well as Frontline. I think it was a three month supply for like 25.00 which is much cheaper then 40-50 for a three month supply.

All birds on Sulmet as of this morning. Lost 5 so far. Found mine at Lee's on 11th. They just had the one bottle but will be ordering a replacement for it if you need to go get some.
Resisted the darling Austro;orps they had in the back.
Stay well.

We have a dog door, walked into the house w/ 1/3 of my dead mangled flock, the rest scattered across the yard.

The birchen boy I have picked out for you is really nice and pretty, I think he is going to be quite the looker, have been eyeing him for you for a while. He had a top knot and beard, a pretty large bow tie, but that will accentuate his birchen patterning, he does have fm, but he is on the lighter side, he can throw darker in his offspring, and especially if you are making showgirls and he is mated w/ silkies.

Yea, that's got the same main ingredient as Frontline (Fipronil). It has Novaluron instead of
(s)-methoprene (copied and pasted-have no idea what it is). I wouldn't hesitate to use it though. Here's a place on Ebay-it looks like there's probably 6 little vials for $20 total. Since birds just take a few drops it'd last forever.mthis is what I've gotten before but from a different seller-

What I did is get a little squeeze bottle and emptied all the little vials into it and applied it drop by drop from that. I need to go look up the number of drops to give, I'll do that this AM. I know Seramas would get only 1 drop.

In my horse/cow barn growing up we used the fly terminator traps and they worked fabulously! I need to get another.

I've seen online where you can fill the traps with a harmless bait solution and then feed the fly soup to your birds...yummo!
