sounds like a can I'd perhaps fox? Do they have foxes here? Coyote?

We do, both. Would a coyote leave absolutely no signs? Like, zero. We have trail cameras, and haven't seen a fox or coyote close to that field yet. I think our dogs (4 of them) scare them off. My plan would likely keep the dogs away from them. They go after the easy prey. It's just tough to balance wanting happy healthy free ranging chickens with safe and alive ones! The eggs are just so much better when they have field access.

electric netting? It's portable so you can rotate their pasture.

here is the shell

That looks like a possible bacterial or fungal infection inside the egg. I would suggest treating your hens because they may be passing something through the egg.

This is from one of my hens. I have 8. 2 babies not laying 2 juveniles and 4 hens. 1 hen we have had for 5 weeks hasnt laid since we got her. The other 3 lay pretty consistent eggs. We know that 1 lays 60+g mint green. 1 lays 50-55g brown and 1 lays 52-59g mint green. Today we got 1 63g mint, 1 57g brown and this was 53g olive or dark tannish. We thought maybe one of our olive eggers started laying. So we decided to break it open and found the 2 black dots. They were in the clear part of the egg not yolk. The yolk was a gel consistency. Egg shell was a little tough to break. Could it be from one of the juveniles? They are suppose to be olive eggers.
